Aisyah r.a. Berkata, "Selepas Rasulullah meninggal, isi rumahku kosong dan aku tidak memiliki apa-apa selain sekantong gandum. Aku mengolah dan memakannya untuk makanan sehari-hari, tetapi gandum itu tak habis-habis. Seakan-akan aku tak pernah memakannya sedikitpun. Dalam rentang waktu yang sangat lama, gandum itu baru bisa habis."
Dalam riwayat lain dikisahkan, Aisyah r.a. Berkata : Sungguh rasulullah telah meninggalkan dunia menuju rabb-nya. Di rumahku, tidaklah ada sesuatu yang dapat aku makan sehari-hari selain sekantong gandum di rak piringku. Aku memakan gandum itu sampai sekian lama, barulah gandum itu bisa habis. (43)
