Five days after Typhoon Haiyan struck Tacloban, we finally got out of here as the roads were already passable by four-wheeled vehicles. We drove 24 hours to Manila to meet my Mom who just flew in from Australia. She was expected to arrive in Tacloban on the 13th of November and unfortunately the typhoon hit us on the 8th. Airport was wrecked and non-functioning. Flights to Tacloban were therefore cancelled. Since she couldn't come home to us, and my Dad is supposed to go with her back to Australia, we decided to meet her in Manila.
My Dad was sort of reluctant in letting us go back home to Tacloban while the situation is still unstable. He decided to send us to his brother in Baguio City, which is in the northern part of the Philippines. The city is situated on the mountain about 1,540 meters above sea level and has unusual cooler climate and thus known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.
As Jehovah's Witnesses, we regularly attend congregation meetings at a Kingdom Hall wherever we may go. There we gather twice a week to study the Bible. Wanna know what happens at a kingdom hall? Kindly watch this short VIDEO.
As of August 2013, the Witnesses already built their 1000th Kingdom Hall in the Philippines and still counting. See that building up on that hill? That's one of them. I took a photo of it from the highway.
How to get there? We have to cross this old bridge by foot. It was kinda scary looking down while walking through it but I liked the experience. Then start climbing up on that hill to get to the hall. We were panting when we get there. I just couldn't imagine how hard the volunteers worked on building this hall!
Going back to the main road, we took a different path. We tried the hanging bridge for experience's sake. Hahaha!
Now this one's terrifying. As we were walking as slowly as we could, we were bouncing like boink, boink, boink. Oh dear! I wonder how we would look if we fall down this rocky stream. One thing's for sure -- I will lose my poise. Lol. I just hope these cables are sturdy enough. Whew!
Challenge accepted. Faced our fears. Done crossing a hanging bridge.
