We have all been through that phase in life where we start being ashamed of ourselves and everything we do. Most of the times, we do so because of how we are treated by the society and judged for being ourselves and expected to be someone we're not.
In desperation of being accepted by the majority, we often do things that we regret later in life, without realizing that our first intuition was the better option. Keeping that in mind, here are some things that I think you should never be ashamed of doing.
Being Different.
Society doesn't appreciate those who are different unless they're hidden under a good name. Being different takes courage and ability to be vulnerable around other people. But usually it's the other way around where we try to please everyone around us and try to change ourselves which is totally wrong and unnecessary. Being different and being yourself is what matters the most when you know your life is worth living.
Your Past.
We all regret some things we did in our past and wish we could redeem them but that's not what life is about. Life is about learning from your regrets, not erasing them. If we keep erasing our lessons, we won't progress. There will be nothing new to learn and that will affect your personality and ability to make your life choices.
Making Mistakes.
We all make mistakes. Sometimes bigger than others. But it still doesn't mean that we should demean ourselves for doing so. Nobody is perfect, and making mistakes is a part of learning and understanding as well. Don't criticize yourself because of the mistakes you did, but instead appreciate yourself for the achievements you made.
Taking A Break From The World.
Sometimes it's best to take a break. It does not mean that you're selfish, it means that you care enough for yourself to give yourself some time to heal. Life can be stressful, and we're often made feel guilty about wanting to pause out on the hardships and blamed for not being "involved enough". But the exact opposite is true. Taking care of yourself isn't something to be ashamed of, it's something that one just has to do.
Being Sensitive.
This rings true especially for men. Sensitivity is usually misunderstood for weakness when in reality, it is nothing like it. Being sensitive means that you're empathetic which is an ability that very few possess and is quite literally what we need to develop and maintain close relationships. Sensitivity is an asset if nothing more and you sure as hell shouldn't be ashamed of it.
That's an interesting point on sensitivity, I was just speaking with a friend about this recently. Being sensitive means you have additional capacity to interpret the world in further detail. It tends to make me more empathetic since I can appreciate many different perspectives and sense what others are feeling.
Nice post!
Exactly. It offers a wider perspective and is a necessity for human relationships. Thank you for the appreciation :)
