According to the English dictionary, ability is defined as the quality or state of being able; capacity to do; capacity of doing something; having the necessary power, while disability is defined as a state of being disabled; deprivation or want of ability; absence of competent physical, intellectual, or moral power, means, fitness and the like.
Now I would like to say that this definition is not entirely true.
Disability I would say is simply an uncommon type of ability.
Following the dictionary meaning of the words ability and disability, then the so called able ones should be the rich, successful people. But today we have poor able men and women, and very successful so called disabled people.
Today we see disabled people employing able people. The likes of;
√ Cobhams Asuquo: A blind successful Nigerian music producer, songwriter, and singer, with a net worth of 2million dollars.
√ Stevie Wonder: a blind American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
√ Ray Charles: American singer-songwriter, musician, and composer. He was blind from age seven due to glaucoma. It was said that Ray Charles could hear a moving cockroach some metres away and he would go pick it up.
Nick Vujicic: is a Serbian-Australian Christian evangelist and motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of arms and legs.
The list goes on and on... All these people are termed disabled by the society but today they are celebrated all over the world.
Even your abilities can make you disabled
Your eyes for example is a major source of distractions. But a blind man is naturally focus. He would have to create his own distractions, but a man that can see don't need to create distractions, they are all around him.
A lot of people, permit me to say especially ladies believe their body is their value.
Don't let your body be your value. Because your body will fail you
As a lady (for example), those breasts will not remain firm forever, there comes a time when they will be saggy.
Ask yourself today, what is my value? what can you offer humanity? How can you positively impact your generation?
