5 Tips to becoming a more confident you

This is such a hard learning process and I think it comes to us all over time, but many of us waste years of our lives trying to be more, or to be more like somebody else. Why do we all strive to be different to who we truly are? Maybe we all need to learn to appreciate ourselves a little more. Here are a few tips on how we can all be more confident with ourselves...

1 Stop trying to fit in or to be like others

I have learnt this the hard way. I spent my whole life from childhood trying to fit in with other people or making them like me so that I could have friends. People thought I was a little weird as I can be socially awkward, so I tried to imitate other peoples behaviors. Although this worked for a while, it is hard to keep up for any period of time and people soon see through the mask. When you are just yourself, like-minded people will gravitate towards you. This is when you make true friends. The best version of you, is you!

2 Learn to say no

People can take advantage when you are trying to be nice or helpful. One thing I have also had to learn is when to say no to people. Trust me, you will soon learn who was a genuine friend once you tell them no. They disappear pretty sharpish if they are not real friends and were only out for what they could get from you!

3 Accept your flaws

Flaws, we all have them. Nobody is perfect. Nope, not even that person you think has the perfect life. They have flaws too! So embrace your flaws, own them. Don’t let people use them against you and take charge of the situation. People can’t bring you down about what you cannot do if you are already aware of the fact and embrace it.

4 Acknowledge your strengths

Yes, you have multiple strengths! They may not be something you have even realised yet, but others will see in you what you cannot, so maybe ask a friend or family member what they like about you the most. Take a true look at yourself; what are you good at? What is your best feature? How do you positively affect people you meet? Once we understand ourselves better, we can learn to...

5 Love our true selves

Love yourself! Embrace your true personality! Be the best person you can be and love yourself for it! This is the hardest thing of all to do, as we are our own worst critic. But once you start to believe the positive things other people tell you about yourself and start to feel comfortable in your own skin, you will start to feel more confident in your everyday life. Just remember there are people out there that look at your life and think it is perfect, don’t throw it away! Walk tall and be proud of who you are and what you can do.

Beautiful post!! I 100% agree with everything you have on this post. I believe that if we would spend more time seeking out and praising our own strengths (instead of constantly looking for flaws) we would all be so much more confident. I wonder what it is about humans that steers us more towards the bad in ourselves (and others), but we have to fight our own self to find the good? I know I am like that. It takes someone else to point out a strength in me before I will ever take notice to it. And even sometimes, I still won't believe them.

It is a hard journey, looking at ourselves in a positive light is much harder than looking at others in awe. I truly feel that we need to encourage each other to teach us to accept praise more often and be able to be happy with our true selves. Thank you for your comment! :)

Outstanding. This is an inspiring post.
