Definition of feminism, the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes- Merriam Webster
Feminism has come along way in the last 100 years or so, making leaps and bounds in social, and political equality.
Think first-wave feminism of the 19th-20th century, when women were finally allowed to vote(1920).
The problem now is radical feminism is taking us off course, far off course. Over the last decade or so i have seen feminism go from being about equal rights to a focus on female privilege. The problem is they aren't a majority of feminists but they're screaming the loudest and that's what we all tend to hear.
When i think of feminism now i think of shaved heads hairy armpits and whining to be made equal, instead of thinking about people like my own mum who never let the fact she was a woman be a disadvantage and refused to take it as such.
Women and men aren't equal, we're just not, not physically, not emotionally and not mentally. But we should be treated equally. or rather, fairly.
When i see a high ranking member of the police get on the news and try and warn us that women should try to avoid going jogging alone at night, or walking home alone from a bar late at night the first thing you see is feminazis jumping at their throat about how its victim blaming and men should be the ones held responsible.
Well yes, the men who do these horrible things should be held responsible. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try and mitigate the danger posed to an individual female. Hell i'm a 6 ft 4 100 kilo man and i don't feel safe walking home alone at night sometimes.
This sort of thing isn't "victim blaming", this is people seeing the reality of the world and trying to mitigate the harm done. It is unfortunate but it is reality, we live in a world where shitty people exist and they do shitty things and that is just a fact.
Education is definitely needed to younger males that women are not some possession and they aren't entitled to a woman for any reason, the only problem is education will never eliminate a woman's risk to 0.
"No woman should be made to feel unsafe" of course they shouldn't, no person should ever have to feel unsafe. But in the real world people are murdered, raped sexually assaulted etc everyday and trying to minimize this should not be thought of as victim blaming.
I recently read somewhere about how our court system is sexist but when i questioned why it turns out they just think the onus of proof is wrong. but only when it comes to rape or sexual assault cases...
One commenter said " Women are made to feel like liars in court, questioned beyond belief and humiliated, they're made to look crazy" well yes that is what defense lawyers do. As shitty as it is they will do everything in their power to discredit you, but that isn't our court system, that is just their job.
If we were to switch it around and put the onus of proof on the accused to prove they didn't do it, we will be taking a very dangerous step. This isn't sexism this is just the way it is, it happens in murder cases, robbery, pretty much any case where one person accuses another of something.
Back to the Merriam-Webster definition of feminism, "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes"
Equality of the sexes.. Not advancement for women. True feminists realize this and embrace this. They do not ask for special privilege because they are female, they simply ask to be treated the same and that's what is really important. To be seen as an equal regardless of whats between your legs or what color your skin is. To have value as a person regardless of who you are.
True feminists fight for the things that matter not stupid indiscretions.
They fight for inequalities in the world not things like equal representation in employment.
True there are sexist industries, but its also sexist to employ a woman simply because she is a woman is it not?
Initiatives in Australia where we are trying to employ more females to be train drivers simply because they are female and underrepresented. Did it ever occur that a lot of women don't want this job? I don't know about you but i don't want someone in charge of a 100+ ton vehicle travelling at 80km/h simply because of their gender. I want someone that was picked because they were best for the job.
I always hear it as an issue that women get called "bitchy" if they are bossy or act in charge, sure its not the best term but if i have a female boss who is actually a bitch im probably gunna speak of her that way, just the same as if i have a male boss who is a dick im gunna call him a dick, just because different terms are used doesn't mean its sexist.
I'm not going to treat you any differently because of your gender, i'm going to treat you differently if i don't like you as a person...
Feminism and equality still have a long way to go in today's society but when we allow radical feminists to be the voices that are heard instead of rational feminism advocates all we are doing is turning feminism into a dirty word that is looked at with disgust.
We all deserve to be treated equal but please be logical about it and don't be a dick, complaining about superfluous issues in feminism takes away from real feminist issues that should be and need to be addressed. Disparity in the sexes should be a thing of the past but if we keep just being angry and aggressive about it all we're doing is turning our opposition against us, we need to make them see and feel rationality and our own standpoint.
Feminism has become a mere joke for the internet to laugh at because of the ridiculous notions radical feminists bring to the table, instead of focusing on real issues we get sidetracked arguing about stupid shit and we get nowhere.

Well said. As somebody who's always championed the cause of women, I do feel that many contemporary feminists are simply rebellious privilege seekers rather than someone who is genuinely interested in having an egalitarian platform for women.
I don't want to live in an either/or world. We're all in this together. Recently, former US President George Bush went on television to warn the US people that the Russians had hijacked and infiltrated their media with divisive messages in an effort to divide and conquer. Any polarity in opinions that becomes divisive because of intractable positions risks alienating both sides of the issue. Even though I'm left wing, with mildly socialist views, I veer to the centre because we are nowhere if not united. Male and female are complementary. Well-matched couples thrive together - through adversity and good times. I appreciate the difference; I embrace solidarity and welcome unity. We've come a long way since it was legal in British Common Law for a husband to hit his wife if she wasn't doing his bidding, and thank heavens for that.
Most people don't realise the difference between feminism and equality. People who wanted everything to be equal in the world created a fuss about it and created an entirely irrelevant and off topic thing called feminism! What we need is equality, everything in the world should provide equal opportunities to everyone without discriminating on gender, race or religion.... thats it! people cant keep things simple for everyone....
Thing is Feminism is meant to be equality but people who arent fighting for equality are calling themselves feminists and it labels the rest of them badly. If you arent for equality then you are not a feminist by definition. Cheers for the reply :)
I agree with you.... The thing is that most people took the debate to a different dimension by contradicting with the fundamental rights of equality....

I agree 1000% !!!!
Third wave feminism is brain cancer. It's basically neo Marxism men are the ruling classes and women are the poor downtrodden proletariat.
