Minimalism is a tool to combat symtoms rather than causes.
Why do so many people feel drawn towards living a simple life?
A few of them actually have a ton of stuff cluttering up their houses and minds.
But then there’s many who have a reasonable amount of possessions, and yet they somehow feel stuck. These people use minimalism as a tool to combat their negative feelings; the confusion which seems to be almost impossible to get ahold of.
You can be the most minimalist person on the planet, and yet you’re feeling cluttered — if you’re not looking at the root cause of your emotions. Getting rid of a bunch of old clothing might help you with that. But the experience of being overwhelmed sits your mind.
Most people can life a fairly sane life with an ordinary amount of possessions. There’s no need for everyone to be a minimalist. But then there’s a few — individuals with tendencies for OCD I would argue (which I am one of) — who desperately need their surrounding to reflect an idealistic version of their minds.

Thank you for sharing that about yourself.
I agree with all you state. In my view, at least in the west, most people can use having fewer things. People are so caught up in consumerism. It is sad that the self storage industry is so big...people need to rent space to keep their excess stuff.
Minimalism is a mindset yet most need to go through the process of physical clearing before they can proceed to mental/emotional cleaning. Our surroundings often reflect what is within oneself.
thanks you bro
