I personally think that the damages that poverty has caused over the years have been down-played. I also believe it's man's greatest terrorist, far worst than Al-qaeda, ISIS, Al-shabab, Boko haram, and the latest herds men. If you add all the people the aforementioned terrorist groups have killed, you will find out that it's in no way compared to the amount of people sent to their early grave by poverty.
According to Wikipedia, the World Bank forecasted in 2015 that 702.1 million people were living in extreme poverty, down from 1.75 billion in 1990.[4] Of the 2015 population, about 347.1 million people (35.2%) lived in Sub-Saharan Africa and 231.3 million (13.5%) lived in South Asia. This simply means that 702.1 million people have been sentenced to death by poverty.
When I hear the word terrorist, the person that come to my head is satan. Satan has three objectives on this earth; to kill, steal and destroy. This is also the action plan that most terrorist groups use to operate, and poverty is not exempted.
Afe Babalola in an article in Vanguard news paper opines that, The poorest people will always have less access to health, quality education and other services. Hunger, malnutrition and diseases have more effect on the poorest in the in the society. Invariably, these all lead to death.
Poverty is not to be toyed with or taken lightly. The first step in disarming an enemy is to identify and understand the purpose of the enemy. Poverty is our enemy.
