Yesterday was a perfect day to head out to the beach. We had already booked tickets on the ferry to take us and the in-laws to Rottnest Island, which is a smallish island about 20km out of Fremantle. Around the island is about a 21km cycle trip, but luckily there is a hop on hop off bus service which comes past each stop about every half hour. It was an anbolute scorcher out there, probably about 36 plus defrees, and not much shade around.
Our first stop point was at Parker Point, where there is some amazing snorkling spots to explore. A lot of wealthy boaties drop anchor here to have a play as well.
We snorkelled there for about 3 hours and saw hundreds of beautiful fish. I tried to video some of the reefs and fish, but didn't have a proper underwater housing, and so they all came out blurry... a good excuse to buy a housing and go back out there😉!!
We were a bit tired after that and caught the bus back to the town center on the island; about a 45 minute slow tour around the island. That gave us a chance to cool off and get some photos of some of the amazing beaches the island has to offer. Have a look here...
After lunch, we walked around the corner to another awesome beach to do some more swimming. There was a big fire burning in the Perth Hills area, and the smoke blew all the way over to the island, blocking out the sun, which cooled the temperature down quite nicely for the rest of the afternoon. We snorkelled some more and saw some really nice, big and small fish swimming around.
Of course no trip to Rotto is complete without a Quokka Selfie... It was hot so most of them were sleeping in the bushes, and those that were out were scurrying about, not holding still for very long. This is the best I could get.

It was a fantastic day over at the island, and afterward we stopped iff in Fremantle fo a bite to eat before heading home. Lucky we wnt yesterday, because today is rainy and miserable... but so refreshing to have rain!!

Yep absolutely stunning place. It's about 20km out to sea from Fremantle. You can holiday out at the island, but it's quite expensive there.
Looks like a nice day :) Noticed the smoke on the way back from JBay, then later on it blew over our way and merrily rained ash on us XD
The colours go so weird when there's smoke haze. Look at that difference!

We didn't get much ash luckily. Just a little on the car when we got back to it in Freo.
The smoke did make everything look a funny browny-orange (according to my poor colour perception), but we were quite happy to not have the sun frying us for the rest of the day.
LMAO! ROTTNEST??? Must have been some scurvy pirate like @thedamus or @goldenarms named that one huh? Bwahahahaha! Yarrrrrgh!
Hahaha! It was named by dutch sailors in the 1600s, after landing ion the island and finding these "rats" which are actually little marsupials call Quokkas, and are native to the island. They're about the size of a domestic cat (maybe slightlty bigger) and are pretty cool little creatures, but can give you a nasty nip if you get on their bad side.
