My first impressions of Steemit... and a reminder to myself of why I'm here.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

So, I've been a Steemian for a mere 4 days now, and in those 4 days I've been browsing away looking at blogs and commenting here and there...  You know, just cautiously dipping my toe in the water to see what the temperature is, not wanting to jump in too deep too quickly and get chewed up by the vicious monsters lurking in the depths.

I stumbled into Steem while looking into blockchain, crypto-currency, and the quest to see if I could somehow start dabbling in the crypto marketplace without too much cash outlay. On my way home from work a few evenings before I signed up for a Steemit account, I bumped into a friend of mine who has also been (a bit more actively) getting stuck into blockchain and crypto-currency.  During our short conversation he mentioned Steem and how it is going to blow facebook out of the water, and told me to have a look and get involved.  So I did...

Well, I'm hear to tell you that the water is warm and inviting.  Every experience I have had so far has been one of warmth, encouragement, and respect. Steemit is a whole new world of social networking, blogging, entertaining, supporting, and the list goes one. It is so much more than just blockchain and cryptocurrency.  I have already learnt a great deal, and benefited form some great advice and encouragement from the Steemians I have encountered.  Here are a few short points or philosophies, mainly for me to look back on later down the road, but may benefit you in some way:

Here goes...

1:  Steemit is NOT about the money

Steemit is about community and sharing good quality content with everyone.  Money is the by-product of the value you add to the Steemit community, and is earned.

2:  Steemit is NOT a get-rich-quick magic bullet

If you want to get rich quickly go and play the markets and hope you get lucky (you probably won't).  Your earnings on Steemit are directly proportionate to the effort you put in, and the quality of your contribution to the community.

3:  Engage with the community, they won't bite (well, most of them won't and the rest don't matter)

Don't be afraid to comment on someone's post, and encourage others to read your posts. Don't be shy, put yourself out there.  When you stop engaging, you stop earning.  It really is about putting in your 2 cents (literally) worth!!

4:  Be patient and persevere

Not every post or comment will earn you $100 (or even $1)... I'll be lucky if this makes me 10 cents!!!

Build your profile with quality content.  Make meaningful comments on others' posts and gain followers.  People with similar interests and mindsets will gravitate towards you in time.

5:  Don't chase the money, let it find you

When you find your niche and have built up a community of followers who share your passions and interests, and you are adding value to your community, the money will take car of itself.

6:  NEVER give up

If your focus is in the right place, you will succeed in the long term.  If you measure yourself by your wealth or earnings on every blog post, you will always fall short and become demotivated.

Remember:  "Your attitude almost always determines you altitude in life"

I hope these insights are of value to someone out there.  Thanks for reading, and feel free to follow me and upvote or resteem this post if you found it of any value.

Until next time....

Thanks @fatkid. Nice to meet you. I will have a look at your blog for sure!

I just started this week as well. I am curious what coins have you been looking at?

Hi @everythingisgood. I have had a brief look at Bitcoin, Doge, and tried to setup my own Ethereum miner on my PC. Unfortunately my GPU was unable to do the job and CPU mining is just a waste of time so it ended their. Now I have found Steemit and am gathering as much info and learning more and more about how blockchain and cryptocurrency actually works beyond just mining. It's a very vast and complicated world so I will stick to researching for now until I have the resources to dive deeper.

Welcome to steemit community.
