Acapulco, in the State of Guerrero, Mexico is a severely misunderstood city. Unfortunately, thanks to mass media outlets highlighting only the ugly parts of living in this beautiful city, travelers miss out on some of the best beaches that the west coast of the country has to offer.
The main street called “La Costera” wraps around the main bay of Acapulco. From this street, there is easy access to the main beach of Acapulco bay. This beach is steep with very course sand. From there, a view of the entire main city is visible from the coast to the mountains. The panorama view spans from the old part of town “Las Playas,” to the newer development with million-dollar homes called “Las Brisas.”
Further south of “Las Brisas” is the “Diamante” Beach. This beach features smooth brown sand and is shallow enough for an adult to walk out into the water for at least 50 feet. At sundown, this is the best area in the city to watch the sunset as there is no obstruction, only the sun shining over the white waves.
Tourists can rest assured that the beaches are peaceful and crime free for those who employ common sense. Do not let the sensationalism of media keep you from enjoying what Acapulco has to offer.
