That’s great that you volunteered like that... probably the toughest age to watch at church as the kids still are trying to figure it all out but know enough to have the separation issues. Once they are 2-3 they know the routine and get excited to play and learn, knowing their parents will be back in no time. Getting excited for you as well... getting closer!
Isn't it around 2 or 3 that they learn the word "NO!" and won't say anything else? It's almost as fun as the separation anxiety.

You just need to learn to phrase the questions properly.
ei: instead of "Stop throwing your peas around" "NO!"
use "Are you finished eating?" "NO!" "Fine, then mind your manners or no cookie when dinner is done."
