What’s the secret to getting what you want in life? Your thoughts? We’ll get to the secret in just a second. But first, what are you doing right now that isn’t what you are truly wanting?
I can remember sitting at the fire station hoping an emergency would come in so that I could have some excitement in my life. That’s not really a good thing to hope for, considering it was at the demise of another (or many others). I had to get out of that.
Have you ever been at your job, and you were thinking, “OMG… Is this day ever going to end?” or “I sure do wish I could go on a vacation, but I only get a couple weeks a year…” or even “It seems like no matter how many hours I put in, I never seem to make enough cash to live comfortably on my own terms.”
Too often we are searching for the secret to getting what you want in life, but it elusively slips by us because you may not have found anyone to show you the way.
Today, let’s demystify this elusive creature together, and reveal the secret to getting what YOU want in life!
Creating Your Reality
After diving into countless hours of personal development, there was one common theme that I kept seeing: We are each the individual creators of our reality.
By you reading this right now, you now know that where you are, what you do, who you are with, and your life experience is because of the choices you make. These choices are made BOTH consciously, and unconsciously.
Taking ownership of your creation (your reality) is the very first step in the process to start being an intentional creator.
“Your life-and everyone else in the Universe is playing the part that you have assigned to them. You can literally script any life that you desire, and the Universe will deliver to you the people, places, and events just as you decide them to be. For you are the creator of your own experience-you have only to decide it and allow it to be.”
― Esther Hicks, Ask and It Is Given
Unconscious creating is similar to driving the same commuter route to work each day. When you first start this seemingly never-ending trip to and from the job, at some point, you have gone that same route so many times, that you no longer have to think about going there. Then you end up arriving to work with no recollection of the trip.
You are now on autopilot, and are now an unconscious creator of your reality.
I know this, because I used to commute over an hour from my house to get to the fire station. At first, I had to pay attention to the route, because it was new. After a couple months, I no longer had any idea of how I got to work… Running on autopilot. After a few years on the job, I started to not even remember being on the job, going on emergency calls, and helping people out of life-threatening situations… All on autopilot.
Your Thoughts Create Your Reality
Imagine what it is you want in life. Quite often it may sound something like, “I want more vacation, but I only get two weeks a year.”
Does this sound familiar?
What if there were a way that you could get more vacation time a year, and not even have to ask your boss for it?
What would THAT do for your life?
How would it feel?
Starting today, take the statement you thought earlier, “I want more vacation, but I only get two weeks a year.” And change it to, “I intend to receive more vacation.”
By stating ONLY what you want, the Universe now is able to give you what you want, and NOT give you what you do not want.
Try this with any sort of statement that has what is wanted and what is not wanted in the same sentence.
Doing this, you can start to think your way into a reality you most certainly can have.
Now I know what you are thinking, “But Brian… There’s no way I can just sit here thinking all day, and the Universe is going to start dishing it to me.”
I say, “Yes and no.”
I used to think that there was no way I could create a life I never need a vacation from, because I always must have a JOB. And with most jobs, I only got two weeks of vacation a year (the fire department was little different, but still similar).
The turning point was when I allowed my thoughts to guide me in the direction I wanted to be. So when I thought, “I want to live a life I never need a vacation from” what came up was, “Brian… If you want a life you never need a vacation from, you need to create a life that does not have vacation time as a constraint.”
This got me thinking… If I could dream up, and imagine how I wanted life to be, then I would just need to DO something that could create that into my reality.
An Idea Turns Into Your Decision
What ended up happening was that your thoughts give you the power to make conscious decisions on your actions. This causes you to no longer be an unconscious creator of your reality. Rather, you become cognizant, and conscious of your decisions, your actions, and your desire to consciously create your reality.
This had me thinking long and hard.
The life I desire consists of:
- Finding the love of my life
- Traveling full-time
- Adventure
- Experiencing amazing cuisines, cultures, and continents
- Contribution to the greater good of Earth & humanity
- I intend to live an extraordinary life
To achieve this, my actions had to align with my goals. As you set a BIG goal, you can work backwards to see what needs to happen to achieve those goals.
Quickly I saw that having a job was a constraint on the achievement of that which I desire.
Taking Action Now
My goals were not far-fetched. You probably are looking at them, and are thinking, “Holy smokes! Could I adopt your goals? Sounds pretty exciting!”
I knew that my decision to THINK of what I desire, must be backed with taking action now.
It is your inaction that prevents you from achieving what you want.
Said another way… It is your action that allows you to achieve what you want.
The decision to desire an epic life was a bold decision. It was a decision that opened the door to creating a business online. It made sense because I had to bring in cash to support that life. It also made sense, because I no longer needed vacation… I was to build a business with a strong mission to that of achieving the freedom that most only dream about.
My actions are what caused the forward progression of creating a business that would allow the location independence required to live an extraordinary life.
In Conclusion
The secret to getting what you want in life was revealed in the very first line of this blog post. The secret to getting what you want in life is simply THOUGHT. Your thought! Your conscious thought! Deliberate thought! As you consciously think, your path will line you up with what to do to create a life you never need a vacation from. For some, it will be putting in the work to create an online business. For others, it may be something else. Regardless… Whatever it is for you, take action on your ideas immediately so that you are not left behind regretting not taking the bold move to Start Now.
