Judging by the reaction I get to the collection in my shop, there is something about her books. A quick glance at a cover reminds us of the adventures, mischief and enchantment of childhood.
Through various sources recently I have ended up with quite a range of old Enid Blyton books in my shop. They are popular among parents and everyone that purchases one in the shop, tells me a story filled with fond childhood memories of that particular book. I love the joy books can bring people.
I too have wonderful memories of devouring The Famous Five books as a child and loving The Faraway Tree and even Noddy. To be honest, I probably would not remember a single story line from these titles but the essence of my childhood emotions are still attached to even the name of these books. I remember my parents reading to me by the wood fire at night and being curled up in a cosy corner lost in the adventure.
I love the illustrations and vintage coloured covers.
Some of the books in my collection are from 1943 through to reprints in 1990.
I have started to read a couple out of curiosity, to see what I think of the stories all these years later.
Do you have a favourite?
Until next time,
xx Isabella
I did. Wow haven't thought about them in years.
I whole box of them arrived in my shop today. I had a few already but this new box had so many titles I had not heard of before. What a prolific writer!
awesome. prolific indeed.
Yes! I loved her books! My favorite one were 5 friends and Lissy! I don´t know if they are called the same in english. I just translated the german names.
Me too! I love how her books were printed in different languages and that the appeal of the story is not lost :)
"The naughtiest girl again" - I dressed up as her for bookweek :)
I read a few snippets of that book today. She really was very naughty :)
I read a fair few of those as a kid and read some to my daughter when she was little. I heard they tried to update some of them for modern kids. Not sure how well that would work, but I'm sure some of the original language would seem odd to them.
Thanks for the nostalgia boost
Interesting. I will have a look around for modern versions. I love the old language. However, reading some of the books again I would have to say that even some of the concepts are a little discriminatory etc... (I guess it was written in a different time). I still love them.
I totally did, I devoured every one I could get my hands on. I often wonder what it would be like to re read some. I do hope that the magic is still there!
Me too! I used to loose a whole day reading chapter after chapter.
Oh, thank you from Ukraine for this post! I remembered my happy childhood! I was fond of reading. Stories of E. Blyton were important part of my "library". Here I found one of my books, it is one of stories about 5 kids and their dog:
Thanks @sonyanka for sharing that photo. I love it!
I remember reading many of these books to my kids. Great memories.

Oh my goodness I was mad about her books as a child... hers was my biggest collection by far. I loved them all, no favourites, as each was enchanting and exciting and I just gobbled them down hungrily!
'gobbled them down hungrily' Love it @woman-onthe-wing.
