Being a nurse for burnt children - by @bigbear

Nursing to me has always been wonderful, I did other work after nursing but that was my most loved work I ever did.

I had so many children that I nursed that burned, in the time I nursed there were very little for other cultures to use than coal to get their food cooked.

I did my training in hospital where at least 30% of the children who came to hospital had very bad burns. These children were crying all the time from pain.

We had to bath them and take the gauze off so that we not pull off the new growth of skin. I can assure you this was terrible for these kids. We cried all the time while we were helping them. Children are so precious and when they are in pain you just wish you can take it away and help. There was not much we could do as even pain medicine lasted just for a little while. There was a lady that I nursed, when she came in it smelled like meat that was cooking. She had put her floor polish on the stove with a little petrol in, we all did it as it made our wooden floors very shiny. Why I still do not know to this day, she had put the lid on the polish tin and the whole thing burst like a bomb. She did not have a spot that was not burnt. This is just to give you an idea how easy it is for someone to burn. I then stopped nursing and had my children but these burn victims stay with you your whole life.

After the computers came out and life became more technical, I started just for interest sake surfing the Internet: for some interesting things that I knew nothing about.

One day I came across training of people going into space and how they had to practice in spaces where they did not have gravity so that they could get use to move around.

I then thought to myself, here we are going to the moon, we want to go to mars and all this cost a lot of money.

The idea formed in my mind, we have all these people burn and have to lie on a bed, that make their pane so much worse. It cannot cost that much to help people here on earth. Just think how many people we will be able to help and relieve their pain. If every big city in the country could build a room with no gravity, can you imagine how much easier life would be for them. They could heal so much faster, have less pain as they are not lying on this burned places. really think in my small mind that some of the money that is used for things that are not so important and used to help people here on earth could make life so much better for them.

I do realise that we will have trained nurses as well, but that cannot be so difficult. Imagine this building where all those people in that block of flats that burnt down and all those people with the terrible burn wounds could be helped.

Maybe I just live in a dream world, but to me it does make a lot of sense. It will cost a lot of money, but once they are there, they will stay on earth and not go to the moon or mars. This will mean that there are people here on earth being helped with this technology that we have in our possession. Why not use all this knowledge here on earth before we go somewhere that does not really make sense for me.

You got some point there. Why do we have to leave earth? I guess there's something bigger than this that we don't know yet.

Your job is really tough and definitely heart breaking. Agreed that resources can be channeled to better use but this is the real situation where resources are used in more 'sophisticated' areas. All the best in your job.

Good information.
thanks for this informative article

NASA was involved in the development of memory foam and space blankets and these lights that heal wounds which can all help burn patients.

Great story, and thank you for doing good in the world.
