How much of your precious time do you spend on technology?
Are you setting goals for yourself and prioritizing your work and responsibilities?
Do you put technology aside when friends or family come for a visit?
Do you take the time to really communicate with your spouse and children every day?
Do you make it a goal to serve other people daily?
When one spends most of one’s time on technology or in the social media, you get so involved in cyberspace that to live in the real world with responsibility of cleaning your room and doing your chores and playing with your siblings, and talking with your family becomes a punishment. All you want to do in the end is keep on playing games or chatting on social media and you do not even think of how it damages your relationship and your responsibility towards your family and yourself as you forget “to live, to love and to serve in a meaningful way.”
Elder Dallin H Oaks in His talk “Sharing Using the Internet” said” Make sure that the choices you make in the use of new media are choices that expand your mind, increase your opportunities, and feed your soul.”
Elder Bednar’s message “Things as They Really Are” I found extremely inspirational and a warning that we might be using the internet and media too much. He gave two questions for us to ponder on:
1.Does the use of various technologies and Media invite or impede the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost in your life?” and
2.Does the time you spend using various technologies and media enlarge or restrict your capacity to live, to love, and to serve in meaningful ways?”
As you ponder on these two questions, you need to decide if how you are using the media is uplifting and enlarging your capacity “to live, to love, and to serve”?
May we take the time to regular ponder on what we are spending our time on and to make sure that our precious time is spend to live, love and serve in meaningful ways.
