I was born around the era when teachers were not afraid to use their cane on pupils and parents had NOTHING to say.
This event happened during my primary school days. I think i was in primary 2 then. One day my teacher told us to tell our parents to make sure they pay our school fees before the week was over because the following week, we will be flogged and sent home.
I went home and told my dad. Then my dad told me to go and tell my teacher that if she touches me, he will deal with her. Foolish me! I got to school the following day with so much confidence that when the teacher was about to give the same warning, I quickly raised my hands and told the teacher..."aunty, my daddy said that if you flog me, he will flog you too and deal with you"
You can imagine the shock on my teacher's face.
Hmmm... the teacher was so furious that the kind of beating I received that day ehn! She told me "when I finish beating you, you will find call your father!"
I cried a little. In my little mind, this teacher is done for! My dad is gonna beat the hell out of her for touching me.!
I got home and patiently waited for my dad to return from work.
When my dad got back, I quickly told him what happened at school. To my surprise, my dad busted into laughter. I was shocked and expecting another reaction from him. My dad then asked me why I said that to my teacher and i innocently told him," is that not what you said I should tell her?" That was when he told me he was only joking and never meant it.
Then my tears began to pour out... I jus took strokes of cane for nothing!
Now whenever I remember this story, I just burst into laughter!
