The haste with which Facebook is trying to clean up any trace of nudity on the site could be a motivation as simple as it is petty. On February 1, 2012, Facebook made its first public offering for listing on the stock exchange. Investors expected the site to be rated somewhere between 75 and 100 billion dollars. When the financial stakes become so high, freedom of expression loses its importance, taking the road right to privacy.
I agree @ned - Nudity and censorship
Facebook Position
The social network(facebook) has created a bad reputation over time after being removed with excessive zeal graphic nudity considered by its rules, unacceptable. In February 2013, for example, drew a picture of a breast cancer survivor (pictured), where a tattoo covering his entire bare chest; FB censored a picture of an elbow that looked like a breast, and removed a caricature of Adam and Eve in The New Yorker magazine account. Other controversial ban was linked to pictures of women suckling and sparked disapproval "Iactivists" - mothers who defend the right to breastfeeding in public spaces. Facebook admitted that he exaggerated in such cases, 'he apologized' and defended his report saying that receives millions of sites (kind of accusation) users who report content network sites that contravene the rules. So sometimes they are “ wrong”.

Such mistakes regarding nudity have affected the image of mannequins without clothes nude drawings of the Academy of Art in New York or Courbet's painting, The Origin of the world. Abduction of Proserpine (n.r. - pictured), a classical sculpture by Bernini, is found in the Borghese Gallery in Rome since 1621 "Not on some Facebook accounts closed after it was reported that indecent". Many users are obfuscate that, often, the social network is not the difference between pornography and nudity as a form of artistic expression and activism, despite freedom of expression should enjoy its members.
Testimonials from inside
Users do not know clearly what are the criteria of their contents. Amine Derkaoui, a Moroccan aged 21 years who worked as moderator content to Facebook, has infuriated social network because it was paid $ 1 per hour for a company that Facebook had outsourced activity censorship that is to match reports. In a revenge, Amine sent publication Gawker internal documents that showed how the social network censor content deemed inappropriate by a small army of moderators as Derkaoui. I list only some of the directives on sex and nudity, the rest you can see here.
So was forbidden any obvious sexual activity, even if naked parts [of the body] covered by hands, clothing or other objects (were included cartoons / art). Prelude (kissing, fondling, etc.), however, was permitted, even for same sex - this after, in April 2011, Facebook has censored the kiss between two men, network charges of homophobia. He was not allowed to display bare intimate parts including the female nipples and ass crack, male nipples are OK, pixelated content depicting nudity or sexual activity as those above, nursing mothers naked or people who use the bathroom. But artistic nudity was accepted.
The excuse
Facebook does not have enough men to watch all the content, most cases occur following complaints punishment (report sites) that make them members say some users. From the text we learn that Gawker published by teams that included moderators and Amine Derkaoui use an online tool to see a stream of photos, videos and wall posts on sites that have been reported by users; either upholds moderators, leading to removal of content, or a crippled, where the content remains either a Facebook send employees to a higher level of moderation. Some users we spoke and were faced with the content to say that it would take several complaints from other users to remove content. At first social network offender issue a warning and delete the contents, then after several deviations shall suspend the account for a certain period of time. In this case, the user banned can not post, comment or like on Facebook, but can send private messages to other users and track content. Some users, after repeated suspensions, they no longer be able to recover the account and are forced to make a new one, while other users that show nudity on their wall sites may remain unpunished.

Violence is everywhere and free, but not nude or sexuality, that is the problem all media
Shortly after his appointment as Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron wanted to seek the advice of someone who "understands what being responsible to the hundreds of millions of people." He has not given meeting, as you would expect, with another experienced head of government. He organized instead a widely publicized video chat with Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook (photo below), as the leaders of two great nations. At the time, Facebook had 850 million active users. If it were a country, it was 3rd in the world after China and India. You say that Facebook is not just a social network, privately owned, so the editorial policies are at the mercy of their owners.
cool!
I just hope Steemit doesn't encourage the taking in of 'censored' refugees
What we promote is what the community will become
There are children here on steemit and promoting images like girls in black stockings and not much else isn't appropriate in my opinion
Just 'cause you can doesn't mean you should
food for thought...
My opinion is any parent who allows their child on
Steemit, a censorship resistant block chain full of anonymous people. Should know what their child is able to handle seeing. The parent has no idea what their child will read and see. Which is a completely fine position for those parents to take. As long as they don't try to create guidelines with how the rest of us should behave to protect their kids from seeing the internet.
Parenting is a difficult path so I am not judging. I am saying I would likely only allow an older child who is very mature to be on this site. Each parent has to consider this. I don't cuss much, or post nudity, but I will not alter my behavior to meet your child's needs. I already raised mine. :)
I partly agree, when I had a child around the ages that they are here they didn't have internet access at home and smart phones weren't popular back then.
However when I came to steemit there was no sign of porn or the pushing through the boundaries of that topic with constantly bringing images like above forwards (possibly to see how the community feels about it). So it is a relatively new thing that I am seeing and I still stand by what I said
'What we promote is what the community will become'
'Just 'cause you can doesn't mean you should'
I agree with your main point! Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Additionally, if we are going to become mainstream which the white paper seems to suggest is a goal of ours, then I think we need many users of many types of content. I thought the community did a good job of handling the recent "NSFW" issue really well. Messy debate, and a solution! Go Team Steem! :)
And... I am not someone who is likely to offend children. :)
Artistic nudity is accepted under a specific tag.
Steemit should make a decision to attract other people, so this move is a great start
yes, Steemit is promoting the freedom of speech but we should extend this plan
i don't think nothing should be censored. it is the decition of oneself what you are looking at on the internet.
I totally agree. I'm amazed to the fact that kids can have fun playing at killing people by blowing their heads off and it is ok. And it is ok that the hero kills tons of people. But a loving couple... or a beautiful woman in nature... oh no! that is sensured!
