Hey, Hive!
Over the past year, many lives have been changed by the pandemic. One of the things that I miss the most is the time I got to spend with friends and colleagues on stage and on set. Today, I’m going to share a few stills from student films and scene studies I've acted in.
Share your favorite film stills in the comments! What films are they from? What do you like about them?
Still from Whiplash Scene Study, directed by Sarah Kiley
This project was a scene study from the movie Whiplash, and I loved the lighting for the scene. The director’s partner was in a band and had access to a performance venue, so we got to have this really cool look.
Still from The Morning After, directed by Amy Hicks
Fun fact, this was the first student film I acted in when I moved to Wilmington to finish school! My Intro to Film Production class had this project, and we were split into groups. This was the scene being produced by the other group, so I was free to act in it. Afterwards, everyone in the film department started hitting me up whenever they needed an actor.
Still from Molly’s Room, directed by Nicola Rampi
This was one of the silent film projects we had during my study abroad program in Italy. It was a creepy scene, and at the very end, my character dies. We didn’t have fake blood on hand, so we made do -- and used pasta sauce instead! Voila!
Still from Erin Brockovich Scene Study, directed by Alex Welsh
Another fun fact: the other actor did not know that I was going to grab the knife! The scene is an argument, and the knife was sitting on the counter, so I improvised. The director loved it, and kept it for the final cut.
Still from Targeted Advertisers, directed by yours truly
Targeted Advertisers is the film I wrote and directed. I acted in it, but only in a small part so I could focus more on directing the other performances. This was an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to share more about it in future posts.
Drop your favorite film stills below, and let’s talk about them!
xo,
Cecilia
I thought about dropping a still from a "film" you and ASB once made, but I said nah!
I'll have to find these films you did. I think I've only seen 2 of yours. I might have seen The Morning After. And there was another one with Marissa involving a pregnancy test. Cool to know you wrote and directed a film!
Haha, I have a still from one of her old makeup tutorials you helped us film... and I feel like I look the same now as I did back in middle school!
