In his book “The Chimp Paradox”, Prof. Steve Peters reminds us :
“When you dream, don’t aim for the moon, aim for the stars”.
But which star? There are so many stars? And so many other shiny things to challenge our concentration. And stars are so far away.
Have you ever lost your dreams?
I have. But I brought them back. Let me tell you how I keep an eye on them.
Do you know what changed my life forever and for the better?
It is writing, my friends. Writing in my journal, or journals, as there are two of them : MoodJo and BuJo.
When the journal journey started, it was first a commitment. It became an addiction.
It quickly became an addiction because journaling virtually improves all the areas of your life. All. It helps me living a better life. A life with dreams.
MoodJo
My days start with a routine tailored to my needs. It includes journaling in my first journal, named MoodJo, for Mood Journal.
My days no longer start with Facebook or Gmail or even a good book.
My days now start with an output: I write. And this is really empowering.
Pythagoras tells us :
Know thyself, and thou shalt know the Universe and God.
Stars are only a metaphor to aim high, but the star, the treasure, is actually deep inside.
My MoodJo (Mood Journaling, journal, morning pages) helps me shedding a light on this inside.
It helps me reflect on myself, on my concerns, on my frustrations, on my fears… but also on what I love, on what contributes to making me happy, on my dreams.
Now what is the point of working on ourselves, if not going for our dreams?
Or… what is the point of working on our dreams, if not working on ourselves?
There might be a link somewhere.
Bujo
John C. Maxwell tells us
“Dreams don’t work, unless you do”.
It is possible to work on our dreams.
It starts by setting very high expectations, concentrating efforts, and do a little every day.
Time is scarce, but if well used, there can be enough of it to achieve what we want.
For this also help is needed. And for me this help is found in a second journal that is named BuJo — for bullet journal.
My BuJo (Bullet Journal) helps me concentrate my energy on what is best — for me and for my dreams.
By setting goals. Objectives. Reminders.
By tracking results and improve. One day at a time.
Hence getting closer to my dreams. One day at a time.
That’s why I use Bullet Journaling.
Now, what is Bullet Journaling? How does it work?
As its creator — Ryder- puts it :
The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less.
The uses of a Bullet Journal can really vary as it is really versatile.
I use it to :
• write songs, poems, recipes, books recommendations, quotes…
• But mainly, I use it to plan and organize,
• Skim the crap out and say no more to what is less important
• Say yes more to what truly deserve my concentration
• Improve focus
• Rely on commitment instead of motivation to get things done
• Log my mood or the things I am grateful for
MoodJo and BuJo are complimentary
The best investment one can make, is to invest in oneself.
This requires to know oneself, to work to improve and to plan and commit.
These two journals became some of my best tools and help me becoming my best friend and eventually a better version of myself :
• MoodJo facilitates self-exploration
• While BuJo helps me to plan and track progresses, and above all, to concentrate and make the best use of the 24 hours of each day
Where can we go from here?
If you’re willing to give journaling a try, please do. It is possible to start with a seasonal commitment and write a page a day (10 minutes) for two months.
If you’re already journaling, then helping people to start their own journal could be an option. You already know how good it is and sharing this seems important as it tremendously improves lives.
