Base on the article that I have read, grounding is of great help to our health but not taught to everybody.
It says that the earth is a massive electrical object and our body is a conductor of electricity, direct contact of the skin to the earth makes the negatively-charged electron flow through us and our electric charge goes from positive to negative. These negative electrons flowing from the earth is a healing electrons while the positively-charged contributes to disharmony or disease. Thus, negatively-charged ions help our system to increase immunity and cellular repair.

I guess this is one of the reason why most farmers don't catch chronic diseases like cancer. We often get disgusted stepping on muds barefooted thinking that we would get bacteria from stepping on it. But on the other hand it is health beneficial. However, we do that ignorant act simply because we don't want to get dirty.

Spending a lot of time in the computer or other electronic gadgets makes us feel drained which tends to increase iritability. Positively-charged ions have been shown to elevate the stress hormones. And going to the beach is also another way to lower it. Walking on the shore is helpful to lessen the positive ions from our body.

The soles of our feet are loaded with nerve endings but wearing thick shoes or sleepers hinders the direct contact to the ground. The sensation of the grass or peebles stimulate the nerves which can help relieve energy blockage by putting pressure on the reflexology.
Grounding sleepers,shoes and mat are now made available so that if you don't have time walking or going to the beach you can use it as your daily companion.
