Following a lead set in 2013 by lawmakers in Israel, France enacted a law intended to promote more realistic standards of beauty in advertising. The new law makes it illegal to hire models with a body mass index (BMI) below 18, and it also requires that all advertisements featuring photo manipulation carry a disclaimer stating that the images "were manipulated."
