This is how food should look when digested! BUT most people are eating fruit at the wrong time. If consumed after a meal, the fruit will be held in the stomach too long along with other foods and will rot and ferment in the gut. This can cause some non so pleasant side effects - such as upset stomach.
How to eat fruit correctly:
- Fruit should be eaten alone
- or with other fruit on an empty stomach
- at the very least, in the beginning of the meal

This is actually incorrect. The high fiber content of fruit can cause it to sit in the stomach longer, but only at most around twenty minutes, which is a good thing because this helps you feel more full and can help you lose weight and take in less of the more typically unhealthy foods. In fact the human body is designed to hold food in the stomach and slowly release it into the intestine to maximize intestinal digestion.
Furthermore, bacteria is what causes fermentation and rot, but bacteria can not survive in the extremely acidic conditions of the human stomach.
The truth is any time is a good time to eat fruit, before, during, or after meals. But most dietitians agree that eating it during the first portion of a meal is best, Because it slows digestion.
