THE LIFE EXPERIENCE OF BEING AN ARTIST: GROWING TO BECOME THE BEST

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Steemit is without a doubt has been giving us a lot of opportunities in life. It give us an opportunity to improve and make ourselves better. It let us learn a lot of perspectives such as in blogging. There are a lot of ideas to blog here in steemit like poetry, arts, travel, music and many more. I, myself, is engaged in blogging my artworks. Being an artist here in steemit has made me to become better and aiming to be the best. I never knew that I could draw/make such amazing artworks and learn a lot of different art mediums until I found steemit.

I began drawing and loving art since I was a lil' kid and I keep on improving my talent because of my ever supporting family especially my dad who fully supports what I love to do. He always encourage me to enhance my skill and go out of the box. He's the one who always grants my wishes to buy my art materials. I've been always a daddy's girl and I'm really proud of it. When I was still a kid, what I love to draw is cartoons and anime. My forte in art is doing the colors. I love it when I am about to color what I draw and I can really see it that I do have a talent for that.

These were my previous artworks.

In highschool, I also am improving by joining a lot of art contest every month and always be in charge in making our bulletin board. Our school engages students to hone each and everyone's skill whether it be arts, dancing, singing or acting. I've won many times and failed many times but it doesn't stop me from pursuing what I love. The biggest contest that I've joined thus far in our school is the logo making contest. It's a contest wherein the participants were asked to make a logo about the centennial year theme. The school wants to be 3 years ready before the 100th year annivery of St. Alphonsus Catholic School or popularly called as SACS. Since it's a big contest, there is also a cash reward for everyone who joined the contest. I was in my fourth year when we had the logo making contest and three of us where chosen to represent our class section. I was super excited and felt nervous during the contest because it's a big event held in our school and the grand prize can have a Php 5,000 reward. The following winners such as those who made it to top 10 also has a cash reward of Php 500 and those who did not made it, has a Php 200 reward and everyone received a certificate.

I am really not aiming to win the grand prize but just really wanted to get a certificate so the day before the contest, I went to the church and pray really hard to God that it's okay if I won't be chosen for the grand prize but just to have and receive a certificate because at that time I thought that those who made to top 10 will be the only one who receives the certificate. I also prayed to God that He will guide mr all through the way and help me think of ideas that I will draw on the contest.

During the contest, I was really quite nervous and didn't really have any idea on what I should do but when we started, so many ideas were flowing out in my mind and I was just scribbling it all down on my paper and started coloring it. The moment I am finished, I immediately passed it to the teacher and I am very puzzled because when I hand it to him and staring at my work, he calls another teacher and wanted to take a picture with my drawing. I was the only one who were asked to take a photo with my drawing but I really did not go deep with it. The day of announcing the winners of the logo making contest were all of the students are gathered in the quadriangle after we had our parade. The host kept on calling each one's name yet didn't even mentioned mine. Until we've come down to top 10 and the mentioned the top 1. I was a bit down because I thought I didn't even won a place nor received a certificate for the contest but suddenly the host mentioned my name loudly that I won the grand prize. I was really in a dazed. I just stood there in line when my friends hugged me and pushed my way hard to the stage. My friends and batchmates were congratulating me as I went to the stage. Other students in lower years also extend their greetings. I really am so surprised and the happiest that I won the contest. It was one of the greatest birthday gift God has given to me  and all of my friends and family were very proud of me. I, too, am very proud if myself for I have something to left in my dearest al ma mater that will always be in my heart.

"If you believe in yourself and if you believe in God's way, you are able to move forward successfully"

Here's the logo that is already modified. The school didn't return my original drawing as it will be their reference and they also asked permission to modify the colors of my drawing.

When I entered college, I never got back to drawing again. Well, I did some scribbling but I do it pretty often and I never get a chance to discover more about my talent and enhance it to the next level. I stopped for about 4 years until the steemit community came to me. That's the time where I've learned a lot of things in art like different mediums to use such as watercolor painting, oil painting, digital art, ballpointpen artworks, coffee painting, charcoal and graphite painting.

My first step here in steemit is joining a lot of contest. There were times were I'm disappointed that my artworks weren't good enough to have won a place in the contest but that never stopped me from improving my work and my talent but instead I pushed myself to the limit. Eventually, after joining some other art contest, I've won my first honorable mentions. It was such a pleasure that of all the contestants, my artwork was chosen to be recognized and mentioned.

It was by @agneslaczo 's Cat in hat contest that I won my first honorable mention. She gave me  a 1 SBD reward and this her comment about my entry.

The second and third contest where I again won another honorable mentions was @sirsensei 's contest which the first one was themed Sunflowers then the other one was themed spiders. Here are my entries for both contests.

I, again, joined another unique contest that is hosted by @yoganarchista which her theme is Discover your body. Each week there is a different theme. On the first week, the first theme is about feet. I wasn't able to win a place because there are a lot of amazing and more eye catching artwork than mine. The next week, the theme is about lower legs. My entry is about synchronized legs. I really am very amazed by how the sychronized dance can move their legs in the water yet for me I found it really hard to do it my self. I won 6th place for the lower legs contest and I am super duper happy about it. Here is my entry for it.

@steemph.cebu had it's third art guide contest and of course, I joined that one too. That time, we are still having the news of the recent eruption of the Mayon Volcano and we also are experiencing the first blood moon after 100 years. So, I was inspired by both happenings and I made that into an art and because of that I've earned my first placed in the contest. I really couldn't contain my happiness winning the first place and I'm glad that the host appreciated it very much.

Then the last contest and the recent one was @steemsummit 's art contest. My entry is inspired by the beautiful Celosia's flower in Brgy. Sirao, Busay, Cebu City, Philippines. I won as the second runner up and I think my artwrok will be exhibited this coming April 22,2018 for the Steesummit meet up. I'm really super excited  with the upcoming event.

I've grown so much as an artist and is still growing to become a real professional someday. I thank all those people who's been a part of my life and to those people who makes me who I am right now. That will be all for now.

MY MOST PROUD ARTWORKS

Any artist have some work that they are most proud of, especially when you are not truly expecting the outcome of that artwork. I have never expected to be someone who can do this kinds of artworks. I am very flattered by those people who are happy and love the arts that I've made and I was able to share to them how I do it. So here is my top 1 among all them.

I never really had any professional experience in painting but I was the happiest when I made this. This the first artwork which help me to become what I am now. I am encouraged by a lot of people who compliments me with this work and I'm really blessed for that.

These realistic portraits were second of the best works that I am really proud.

It really is a nice feeling when you are making an artwork and when you let them see it, they are very happy and satisfied with it. I've never done any commission but I if I want to draw that person then I definitely will even if there's no payment for it but as long as I make them happy with my artwork that will be enough.

Wow your works are lovely! I look forward to more of your artworks. I agree with what you said that it is disappointing when we don't win contests however, not winning will help us grow. Thanks for sharing @christney! <3

Thank you so much 😊.
I look forward to your works as well.
Have a good day!

I miss @yoganarchista's contests. Hers is my favorite... Huhuhu... I got very busy in school as a teacher and has not joined contest more often. Huhuhu. This summer, i am still very busy.

However, my pen and pencils are pulling me. So I still draw.. But not in the contest anymore. To date I have 62 artworks here in steemit. Hahhaha
..

See you around and congratulations specially to your recent winnings. You deserve it.

I miss her contests too! I felt the same way. Got super busy in school and haven't really been active in steemit. I am not as active as I was before but still scribbling down because both of us can't resist the calling of our pens and paper, right?

Thank you so much and looking forward to your works. Have a good day!

Thats very nice to hear from you @christney. If students are busy thats because teachers are busy too
