Monsanto was recently bought by the Bayer pharmaceutical company for $66 Billion.
Pharmaceuticals and GMOs, what a lovely combination!
Read more about the buy out of Monsanto here.
I feel that it is important that we take a look at what Monsanto was working on in the past, to even start to grasp what it could be developing for the future!
What Is Monsanto?
"Monsanto is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation based in the United States."
Monsanto produces the most Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) on the planet, up to 90% of GMO seeds planted in 2003.
Monsanto also creates pesticides specifically engineered for their crops.
The History Of Monsanto
In 1901 Monsanto was founded by John Francis Queeny, a veteran in wholesale pharmaceutical production & distribution. Queeny was married to Olga Mendez Monsanto for whom Monsanto Chemical Works was named.
Monsanto's first product was saccharin, an artificial sweetener that was sold to Coca-Cola. The government at the time sued Monsanto because saccharin is toxic and unsafe, but unfortunately lost in court. Monsanto continued to poison the world through saccharin and soft drinks!
- "1930s: Created its first hybrid seed corn and expands into detergents, soaps, industrial cleaning products, synthetic rubbers and plastics. Oh yes, all toxic of course!"
- "1940s: They begin research on uranium to be used for the Manhattan Project’s first atomic bomb, which would later be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese, Korean and US Military servicemen and poisoning millions more."
- "1960s: Monsanto, along with chemical partner-in-crime DOW Chemical, produces dioxin-laced Agent Orange for use in the U.S.’s Vietnam invasion. The results? Over 3 million people contaminated, a half-million Vietnamese civilians dead, a half-million Vietnamese babies born with birth defects and thousands of U.S. military veterans suffering or dying from its effects to this day!"
- "Monsanto partners with I.G. Farben, makers of Bayer aspirin and the Third Reich’s go-to chemical manufacturer producing deadly Zyklon-B gas during World War II."
- "1990s: Monsanto spends millions defeating state and federal legislation that disallows the corporation from continuing to dump dioxins, pesticides and other cancer-causing poisons into drinking water systems. Regardless, they are sued countless times for causing disease in their plant workers, the people in surrounding areas and birth defects in babies."
- "Thanks to the FDA, Congress and White House, business remains very good. So good that Monsanto is sued for giving radioactive iron to 829 pregnant women for a study to see what would happen to them."
What Is Regulatory Capture & Why Is It So Important?
According to Wikipedia "Regulatory capture is a form of government failure that occurs when a regulatory agency, created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or political concerns of special interest groups that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating."
This is corruption at it's core, when a corporation owns the body which is supposed to regulate it, there is no telling what cut-backs and dangerous decisions have and will be made.
Do we want to live in a world where corporations are choosing what is safe for us to consume, I do not!
The Curse Of Regulatory Capture:
The FDA's mission: "The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices; and by ensuring the safety of our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation."
The theory is that if a corporation does something that isn't in the public's interest the FDA follows it's mission and does not approve it.
Global Research tells us that "Amidst all the death and disease, FDA’s Arthur Hull resigns under a cloud of corruption and is immediately hired by Searle’s public relations firm as a senior scientific consultant. No, that’s not a joke! Monsanto, the FDA and many government health regulatory agencies have become one and the same! It seems the only prerequisite for becoming an FDA commissioner is that they spend time at either Monsanto or one of the pharmaceutical cartel’s organized crime corps."
But alas, the FDA is working alongside Monsanto, we have reached a point of regulatory capture. We would hope the FDA would have something to say about this!
The Dangers Of Monsanto's Herbicide Resistant GMOs!
One of Monsanto's most prolific products, is Roundoup Ready Soybeans.
Demo Science tells us that "Roundup Ready crops are crops genetically modified to be resistant to the herbicide Roundup. Roundup is the brand-name of a herbicide produced by Monsanto. Its active ingredient glyphosate was patented in the 1970s."
Organic Consumers informs us that "Eager to sell more of its flagship herbicide, Monsanto also encouraged farmers to use Roundup as a dessicant, to dry out all of their crops so they could harvest them faster. So Roundup is now routinely sprayed directly on a host of non-GMO crops, including wheat, barley, oats, canola, flax, peas, lentils, soybeans, dry beans and sugar cane."
Glyphosate And Associated Health Impacts
According to Eco Watch glyphosate is associated with numerous negative health impacts, including but not limited to:
- ADHD
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Autism
- Birth defects
- Brain cancer
- Breast cancer
- Cancer
- Colitis
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Liver disease
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Pregnancy problems (infertility, miscarriages, stillbirths)
- Reproductive problems
- Respiratory illnesses
A study in Mississippi in 2007 showed outrageous amounts of glyphosate and other herbicides in the atmosphere. NCBI tells us that "Glyphosate and its degradation product, aminomethyl-phosphonic acid (AMPA), were detected in ≥75% of air and rain samples in 2007"
This is scary, herbicides adverse effects seem to correlate to those of vaccines!
Where Do We Go From Here?
The world is not in ruin yet! We need to start saving our own organic seeds, stand up to our corporate overlords while starting the steps to traditional farming. I believe we are engaged in a serious fight for survival and I will be writing further about this subject. I would appreciate any feedback and thoughts on this topic.

Chron cares about the world and promotes organic farming!
It was worth reading the history of Monsanto, I had no idea they go so far back and were involved in so many criminal inventions. Thanks for putting things into perspective.
Their methods are disgusting, they will sue you if any of their GMOs contaminate your neighboring farm, and they will win! Because it's YOUR fault if the wind blows THEIR trademarked GMO's pollen into neighboring lands. Etc...
I've heard these cases have all but stopped, where they will refund the cost of new non-gmo seeds(though perhaps for less than they are worth?) Though they make you believe to be competitive in the market you'd need increased yield provided from a gmo and then they'll certainly sue you if you try to reseed your field as opposed to buying new seed. Same goes if you try to reseed their gmo after it overtakes your field. Last I heard there were few to no reseeders left having all been sued with perpetual litigation until bankruptcy
This is a great point which I will mention in my followup post @drabs, these monsters, the corporations, should pay for the acts they have committed! Thank you for your comment :)
Supposedly they do provide compensation for those whose fields have been overtaken(they aren't allowed to reseed the proprietary seeds), though I can't say which seeds are available and at what cost nor what compensation is provided and with what ease. I look forward to your next post
I need to look into this more, thank you @drabs for this perspective, I didn't see anything about compensation for anything so I will research further. See you in the next one :)
http://www.centerforfoodsafety.org/files/cfsmonsantovsfarmerreport11305.pdf not sure how relevant it is to today, also, https://monsanto.com/company/media/statements/gmo-contamination-lawsuits/ they say they've not really sued anyone though there are basically no reseeders left last time I had checked.
This is a great point @drakos, I despise corporate action on anything! Thank you for your comment :)
Glad you enjoyed @ladyrebecca, I was suprised about that as well.
They think handing our food supply to the same people who made weapons for multiple world wars is a good idea!!!!
Thanks for your comment :)
Great you highlight these issues..
the power and influence they have is almost too hard to take on.. but with good real information from articles like this we can try to get the truth out..
Thank you @eco-alex, I'm glad to give the information I can find. Thank you for your comment :)
Fuuuuck Monsanto
In the FACE!
So, Bayer finally acquired Monsanto. Two devils shaking hands to create a bigger devil 👿
I wonder what new wonder pesticide Bayer will come up with, since Monsanto's own Round-Up is losing efficiency! I'm afraid the chemical nightmare has just begun.
Indeed my friend, we will need to keep our organic seeds safe while there still are some! Thank you for your comment :)
They will probably make some tablet for kids that 'protects them' from the cancer causing shyte they make on the monsanto side...and then make it mandatory. Maybe even coat the rice chip in it.
Sounds alarming but I wouldn't be too surprised! Thank you for the comment :)
I swear we now live in a B Sci-Fi movie
I think, there are still too many people "blindfolded" by the media. Commercial media will not tell you anything about this. You always got to a research for yourself and your loved ones. btw, I saw that post in discord
Maybe because I upvoted it there? 😇
no, it was just promoted :) but good post. we need more posts like this
@worldfinances, thank you :) Glad you enjoyed, stay tuned for more bro!
Thank you @drakos :)
They are an insidious group of people who will stop at NOTHING for a profit!
No normal person would act in such a manner, with so much wealth, which shows the mentality and contempt that the owners and managers show towards the general population. Or should i say US, the MORON 'Consumer Units'!
In future times we will realise how vile these companies are and how, at the end of the day, the food chain has a huge knock-on affect within OUR human ecosystem and food chain.
Yes, this is definite! Thank you for your comment :)
Ive read that Monsanto wont even feed their own employees their "frankenfood", this alone should tell the world how much they trust it!!
That is horrible, I will research this and include it in my follow up post, thank you for your comment :)
awesome post... I follow the Monsanto and glyphosate issue, and great discussion of regulatory capture as well. it's a battle against corruption, greed, and money that never ends. I know GMO issues are hugely important in India as well. resteeming /peace
Thank you @clumsysilverdad, glad you are finding & researching more information! Thanks for the resteem :)
Most of the seeds and seedlings sold in stores for us common folks are non-gmo, although a few seed companies source of seeds may come from monsanto. Just a google search away. Planting your own is food stuff basically the best way to ensure that no unwanted chemicals are being added to your food. Wealthier folks may be better off to try ensure their food products are USDA organic (non-gmo) to help encourage farmers and food manufacturers to farm non-gmos.
I am not against GMOs per se, but the way monsanto has been tailoring it around roundup I cannot justify. I Only spotted one honey bee in about 2 weeks in my garden. While I doubt their absence is due to monsanto locally, their absence I find disturbing. Other pollinators are picking up the slack (not that they are required for everything), but I am not sure how many of them could produce honey.
Yes, here in Bali we can source food that might be the closest to organic you can get, I get them from friends who seem to know what they are doing. I also have an organic garden at home but it doesn't provide enough for the whole family, so am forced to buy veggies that may be G.M.O sometimes. Thanks for your comment :-D
Thank you for a great post! =)
Elated you enjoyed @jockey :)
Keep it up, Will read later :)
Thank you! Hope your future self enjoys :)

to resolve the problem of corporations, one has to resolve the monetary equation. As long as it isnt done, nothing will change but get much worse
we should form a team :) I write extensively about those topics

Sounds awesome! I live in Bali so our time zones might be different though :)
I really hate both companies. They are evil and don't support the natural life... they destroy the natural cycles or rhythm.... :-(
Thank you for your input! This is very true and disturbing, we need to go back to the good old days :)
Not the best history. Is the buyout by Bayer in part to not use the Monsanto brand name anymore?
Not sure actually @jake58, had a little look online and there doesn't seem to be anything saying that. Thanks for the comment :)
Spelling mistake in first sentence. Upvoted tho. Good work. Followed.
Hahaha, just noticed after I read your comment, thank you 😉, gave your latest post a vote.
Everything around is trying to kill us with the chemicals in it. And of course planting your own fruits and veggies is always the better option, but they are not free from the crap anyway. It is already everywhere - in the soil, rain, and air. Then you will go home and wash your hands with soap, use toothpaste.... we all got very comfortable with those simple thing. Not many people right now will bother making their own soap from own produced ingredients.
This is very hideous reality needs to be fixed! Here in Bali there are many organic farms which probably do the best you can find. People also make their own soap, thank you for your comment :)
I have not heard of this. Glad you presented it. keep it up
Thank you, I will keep it up! Thanks for the comment :)
Resteemed. Nice job bud.
Thank you for the resteem, thanks for the comment :)
Are their independent commisions which test for safety of gmo proteins and of pesticides since the fda is paid to ignore and alter data?
I'm not quite sure @drabs, sorry. But by now my best guess is that Monsanto has bought up as much independent researchers as they can so maybe no :(. Thank you for your comment :)
Good post! One solution, don't buy their poison anymore! If we do this together they have no power anymore.
Yes, we must unite and come back to our roots. Thanks for your opinion :)
Wow, scary stuff...
Indeed, thanks for the comment :)
the FDA pfft.... omg what a bunch... I remember i watched a youtube series with like 7 episodes on Monsanto about a 4 years ago... this is when I first learned about what they were and what they were about! I was horrified as to the amount of facts that were debunked and came out mostly true... craziness how this stuff goes on unnoticed by mas populations day after day after day
Yes, absolutely evil of them to disregard us like this, thank you for the comment :)
Monsanto is an evil company, and once the have food production in their control then population is next. Too much money trading hands here for anything good to come from these transactions. 🐓🐓
True dat, thank you for voicing your opinion :)
They have ruined successful farming operations all over the world. 🐓🐓
They must pay 👍
That is precisely why it was so important that Europeans would not allow trade agreements with Canada to be signed. Although it is not an agreement with Monsanto's headquarters country, its intention is to bring to Europe a large number of products previously banned within the EU.
So from now on we are the consumers responsible for forcing these products to be withdrawn from the market as EU legislation now favors Bayer-Monsanto's interests.
"Chron cares about the world and promotes organic farming!" & @teks too. Select your best seeds, if you have plenty to share with your neighbors and friends.
Thank you for exercising your right to speak out about this @teks, here in Bali there are plenty of seeds to go around :)
You are fortunate. Here in Spain there are many crops of which there are no longer ecological seeds to plant like corn for example. Still among family and friends we still have seeds for small crops of potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, beans and peppers.
My family and I are starting an ecological pistachio plantation and we have had to leave some land without planting to avoid pesticide contamination of farmers who have their crops very close to our land.
In a few days I will introduce our beloved little trees to the steem community.
Sounds unfortunate teks, you should be the renegade organic seed dealer on Steemit!
Hehehe. I think that all of us who are trying to make our organic crops must try to make farmers in our respective regions of the world use seeds that are not genetically modified. As well as training and informing our neighbors about the use of pesticides. This will allow new eco-farmers to grow their crops without the risk of being contaminated by the use of chemical agents in the vicinity of their crops.
We have hard work ahead but for the sake of the human species and its health we have to move forward.
Thanks Chron! Very detailed up-to-date info!
No wollies Seb, glad you enjoyed :)
