What happens after death is beautifully told in Islam.
After death, all the people of the earth will be gathered in the Plains of Resurrection to judge their actions.
We reincarnate millions of lifetimes and have to evolve and learn wisdom, love and knowledge. We evolve through learning from mistakes and keep plodding on for a very long time. So no heaven just a fine material world where we wait for our next incarnation as an energy like bubble (like a sleep) waiting for our next personality in the new life. I want to do a great blog on this but might get bombarded by the religious types.
Hello @cloudbuster. What your mummy told you is absolute truth. The living our conscious they will die but the dead knows nothing at all. So, they are "dead forever and ever".

Getting older it is harder to sleep more time. I only can get a "demo" everytime as i sleep only for 4-5 hours. But i got your point :-)
