"In public avoid talking often excessively about your accomplishments and dangers, for however much you enjoy recounting your dangers, it's not so pleasant for others to hear about your affairs."
-Epictetus

What Epictetus is trying to say here can be put in very plainly, just listen.
I'm not saying that the stories about ones past or the future to be are boring, but unless you're asked and people really take an interest on you, or maybe if there is an awkward silence, you should definitely listen more 'cause you can learn more that way.
You won't learn anything by saying what you already know.

Active listening is also a lot different from passive listening.
Being engaged, watching close and being certain to never interrupt, being a good listener is a super important skill.
