Forget All This Button Talk—Space Trash Could Kill Us All

Scientists are nervously watching a 19,000-pound Chinese space station's course because its out-of-control route is making it impossible to figure out where it will crash.

China lost control of unmanned space station Tiangong-1 in June 2016, and the thing has been orbiting out of control ever since. It sounds like it is expected to re-enter the atmosphere in March, and will eventually crash-land somewhere on Earth—but nobody knows exactly where, or when.

Holger Krag, head of the European Space Agency's Space Debris Office, while spending his days in possession of an amazing job description, also had this to say: “The date, time and geographic footprint of the reentry can only be predicted with large uncertainties. Even shortly before reentry, only a very large time and geographical window can be estimated.”

I don't know about you but I'm still more afraid of Trump and King Jong Un. I meant neither has caused me to do anything different in my life but I tend to worry about Trump more.

This is crazy! Hope it doesn't happen! But thank you for sharing!

It's always the black swan. Space trash kills humanity.

I think all politicians are crazy, I will take my chances with the space debris, can I vote for it? :-)

My mind boggles when the reality that we can land rovers on Mars remotely but can't predict where something coming at us is going to land. Strange times we live in.

This is crazy!!! I can’t imagine the engineers ever thought of this when they designed the space crafts. Wow
