RE: The Struggles of Growing up with Glasses - You Know How It Is!

in #life7 years ago

I really need to get glasses... I don't legally need them to drive, so I haven't bothered with getting them as an adult. My parents got me glasses in 7th grade and I remember thinking that it was like seeing the world in high definition. This may sound strange, but I think I preferred the works have a softer, slightly hazier look! The glasses looked awful on me and after getting made fun of pretty bad, I conveniently "lost them". Not a proud moment for me, especially now that I know how expensive glasses are. I've been basically putting this off since then, but I just need to take the plunge and make an eye appointment! What brand of frames do you use... have you been happy with them?

Luckily there are a lot of options these days: contacts, laser eye surgery, and all different glasses. My last eye appointment went great! (and it was at Walmart!) She told me that my eyes were pink and healthy, and showed me this scan they took of the inside of my eyes. I think I just liked hearing that my eyes were healthy :p (even though I can't see(??))
Jeez I've had my glasses for at least seven years... I can't even remember the last time I got new ones, since I rarely wear them. I was just able to make out some faded text on the frame that says Safilo. And yeah, I've been pretty happy with them, no complaints!@coruscate

I've heard enough stories of laser surgery that went wrong to be scared off it for life. I know it's a slim chance but impaired night vision seems to be a common problem. I want to always be able to see the night sky perfectly (even with glasses) and not distorted by defects. That said I have a friend who is a commercial airline pilot and they can get it for free - obviously airlines think it is safe enough to recommend to their most precious human resources.
