Our Family Repairman - Gratitude #67

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Repairs! Repairs! Repairs! Every so often a bunch of electrical and plumbing repairs need to be done. It’s weird how it’s usually several problems at one time! And finding a reliable workman is quite difficult, if not impossible.

I had a electrician cum plumber who was very reliable. He was very honest with his pricing and would work very hard to find a way to fix a problem which other workmen would not even attempt (too much work). He worked alone because all the people he employed were hard to train. Sadly, he passed away many years ago from a heart attack. So the search for another reliable workman began.

We’ve used quite a few different workmen but never found one we could really trust, until about two years ago. He was introduced to us by our niece. His name is Ista and he’s from Bangladesh. We trust him because he’s proven himself to be honest. There were a couple of times where we compared his quotation with other’s and he came out the winner!

We bought our parents a new airconditioner and asked the electrician who installed it to have a look at a leak in our parents’ bathroom. He said he would have to hack the wall to get to the pipe that was leaking and that would cost more than RM2,000! But Ista repaired the leak without having to hack the wall and charged us just RM600!

The other incident was with my niece’s mother-in-law’s house. A contractor quoted her RM12,000 for a major plumbing repair and said it would take more than a month to complete the work. Ista did it for RM2,800 and completed the work in about two weeks!

We trust him so much that when he went back home to get married we held on with our repairs until he came back. That was like three months! 😅 Today he and his younger brother came to repair some electrical and plumbing problems that have been waiting for him!

I like chatting with Ista and our pest control technicians and getting to know them. I think it makes their job easier and more pleasant when they have friendly clients.

Ista’s mom found him a wife from another village, just like with his older brothers. She did a good job with them and she did a good job with him too. He enjoyed being married so much he postponed his flight back here!

He sent me photos of him and his new bride and they looked so happy. They both shed tears when he had to come back here, leaving her behind. Just this morning she called him three times! It’s no wonder he was late for our appointment!

I hope they can be reunited soon because they miss each other so much, but I don’t want to lose him either. It will be quite impossible to find someone else as honest as he is.
