In today’s challenging world, it is vital to have energy, enthusiasm and optimism in all areas of your life. If there is one thing that differentiates successful and unsuccessful people it is how they think. Now one thing is certain, everybody thinks, at some point but not everybody are good thinkers or think right. Thinking right is a skill that needs to be developed and mastered. As a matter of fact, when you set your mind to thinking right and better, the good ideas keep coming. It’s like a magnetic field.
Just as bad thinking is associated with negative beliefs, anxiety, fear, low self-esteem. So is thinking right to positivity. When you think positively you open your mind to ideas, success, happiness, creativity, which are essential ingredients to becoming a top performer and achieving your goals.
It is very evident at work or play, with friends or family, that positive people are happier and more successful than those with a negative approach.
Positivity works!
POSITIVE THINKING FROM MY POINT OF VIEW.
Positive thinking is about more than thoughts. It is an entire approach to life. It means focusing on the positives in any situation, rather than the negatives. It means thinking well of yourself rather than constantly putting yourself down, it means thinking well of others and dealing with them positively. It means expecting the best from the universe and trusting it will provide.
Thinking positively is supposed to be a lifestyle
LETS TAKE A LOOK AT SOME PRACTICAL WAYS TO GET ON A MORE POSITIVE TRACK
CREATE A POSITIVE WORLD
To start thinking positively, it is important to realize that the way you experience something is determined by what you think about it. My dad would always say “nothing is either good or bad, your thinking makes it so” – I don’t know where he got that from. But as I began to discover the power of positive thinking I realized he was right. If you face the world with pessimism, cynicism and self-criticism, you will experience life as negative; just as if you respond with optimism, excitement and confidence, you will create a circle of positivity that builds your energy and inspires others.
This is called the "law of attraction" - “Everything that is coming into your life, you are attracting into your life. And it is attracted to you by virtue of the images you’re holding in your mind".
Whatever is going on in your mind you are attracting to you.
“Every thought of yours is a real thing”- Prentice Mulford
“Thoughts are magnetic and thoughts have a frequency. As you think, those thoughts are sent out into the universe and they magnetically attract all like things that are on the same frequency”
ANALYZE YOUR APPROACH
Tracking your thoughts, feelings and beliefs helps you feel in control. It lets you understand why you’re having negative thoughts. The most basic indicators of your positivity or negativity are your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and emotions. The more aware you are of these signals, the more you’ll be able to move your feelings from negative to positive.
“Capturing a negative thought is the first step in changing it” – such as a bad day at work or an argument with your partner. Instead of getting locked in paralyzing loops of bad feeling, analyze how your mind is working, move quickly to take action to resolve those negative feelings.
LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The Chinese word for “problem” also means “opportunity”. The lesson here is to challenge negative thoughts by looking for the opportunity that lies within a problem, even when a situation is truly bad, you can avoid becoming overwhelmed by negativity. To do this you need to stop focusing on the problem areas and concentrate on finding solutions and the silver linings.
Nothing is never all bad, find a more balanced response to situations. Which brings us to the next point.
USE CONSTRUCTIVE LANGUAGE.
Be aware of the words & responses you naturally use. If necessary, ask others to tell you what expressions you use, then identify those that you use when you are being self-critical, pessimistic or problem-focused.
For each, generate a positive alternative then when you hear yourself using a pessimistic phrase, stop in mid-sentence and switch to the more optimistic one. In time your mind will spot when you are talking negatively and automatically correct what you are saying.
For instance, instead of saying “if only I had. . .” say “next time I will. . .” or instead of “what can I do?” say “I will do my best”.
Imagine a scenario where your boss seems not so interested in you instead of saying “he is not pleased with me” say “he is under a lot of pressure”. Use affirmations such as “I am happy” or “i can do this. .” - With time it will stick.
“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness” - Lao Tzu.
ESTABLISH YOUR SELF-ESTEEM
People who have high self-esteem are natural positive thinkers; and having a positive outlook means having high self-esteem. It follows that if you use positive thinking techniques to enhance your core beliefs, your self-esteem will soar.
Self-esteem can trigger a spiral of good or bad feeling, according to how high or low it is. If it is low, the slightest problem will trigger negativity, and if its high you get to see every problem as an opportunity.
With a high self-esteem you can cope with any difficulties that arise; simply acknowledge the problem, take action to fix the problem and your confidence will set you on the right path.
“Realize that no one can make you feel bad unless you let them”.
ACKNOWLEDGE EMOTIONS
You might think the best way to be positive is to ignore painful emotions. But this is not so. Your emotions make their presence felt for a reason. They are indicative of an increase in your body’s energy levels, triggered to deal with a threat. Unless you acknowledge them, your emotions will intensify to the point where you are forced to pay attention.
When you feel a negative emotion, stop and register it momentarily, then explore why you are feeling the way you feel and tackle it accordingly. It may need you to express them consciously maybe by "shouting", "crying out" or "punching a wall" (don’t injure yourself though :).
“Emotions do fade once you really express them”.
“Catch negative emotions at the source and use the energy they generate to motivate you to act”.
CREATE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT
Positivity is generated from inside you, but what happens outside matters too. Environmental factors can influence the way you feel. It is vital to have a place, however tiny to which you can retreat that is created entirely to your taste. At home, your oasis of calm could be a corner of the room; at work, it could be your desk. Just try to create a space where you can be relaxed, comfortable, focused and feel happy. If possible choose your own furniture, pictures and colors. I’ll advice you choose colors like
blue {calm, settles}
yellow {invigorates, warms}
green {soothes, harmonizes}
red {stimulates, arouses}
purple {energizes, inspires}
orange {welcomes, warms}
white {enhances natural light}
You get most from thinking positively if you apply it regularly and consistently across your life, so you have to create an environment that constantly enhances your mood. This environment not only involves space but people as well. Ensure to surround yourself with positive people and actively avoid negative people as much as you can.
EAT FOR POSITIVITY
You are what you eat, and there is increasing evidence that poor diet can send your body into a downward spiral of negative emotions. It is also widely accepted that there is a link between physical health and mental well-being. If you eat foods that make your blood-supply level soar; that produce an adrenaline rush or that trigger food intolerance, you are likely to spend your day in a roller coaster of emotions.
The brain naturally produces certain neurotransmitters, one of whose functions is to help you feel good. In particular, serotonin which keeps you calm, focused and optimistic (foods that produce serotonin are cereals, pasta, rice, starchy vegetables); dopamine and nor-epinephrine keeps you alert and active (chicken, fish, beef, nuts, vegetables).
STRETCH IT OUT
Exercise builds health – and a healthy body is conducive to a happy mind. Exercise helps counteract stress and increases the production of feel good brain chemicals (serotonin, dopamine and nor-epinephrine). Exercise also releases tension and some negative emotions which affects positive thinking.
follow these practical steps to being more positive in thinking, speech and your actions and i'm sure you'll get on the track to success.
BE AWESOME!
