There is an overarching theme in modern day society where people want to be inspired by others to be great. They want to be successful, go on adventures and live life to the fullest, yet they want to do it whilst riding on the coat-tails of an inspired change and self-revolution driven by someone other than themselves. Don’t get the wrong impression, I’m definitely not saying that it is a bad thing to be inspired, after all role models inspire us all; yet it is when you get trapped in the constant cycle of waiting to be motivated by someone else time and time again that YOU should consider to make the change yourself.
A well known YouTube personality by the name of Casey Neistat continually pushes a similar message – that being to get out and seize the moment. Unfortunately a lot of the time it is awfully hard to do so when watching the extraordinary lives of others, which are sadly more often than not more interesting than our day-to-day lives. I for one am one of these people. Someone who countlessly watched hours of footage of people who are more successful than me, only to propagate my life afflictions when I could be doing something constructive.
It is around this point in time that you realise that you’re not looking at these other people’s lives as a source of motivation, yet rather as nourishment for soul which is being crushed under your inability to want anything more than what you have right now. This is where this story (where you are at in your life) needs to be reversed, changed and repaired - where you need to become the inspirer.
I’ll PAUSE mid-piece to quickly emphasise one point: the simple, yet purposely convoluted moral of this story so far is to lead you to realise that if you are reading this to be inspired, then you have missed the point all together. You do NOT want to have to read anymore motivational quotes OR listen to anymore Rocky Balboa music to be inspired; you simply want to be able to strap yourself into the rollercoaster they call life, and embrace the ups and downs of its undulated curves.
Being inspired can only get you so far, as it is nothing more than a scalar quantity – one without direction. This is the key difference. Someone who inspires has a purpose and direction, and those who are inspired are filled with adrenaline and running into every opportunity just because they can, without knowing why. Those who inspire know the reason that they’re going around the world, why they quit their day job to pursue their passion and what they want to achieve.
Be an inspirer. Someone who can pull themselves away from the everyday and find a direction in life which they want to get to. Work hard for it, study hard for it, travel and simply inspire others to become an inspiration in their own life. We are a world waiting to be motivated, so why not be the one to make the change, rather than follow it?
