Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.
If the typical tourist landmarks are not for you, and you want to get off the beaten track then here are a couple tips that you wont find in normal tourist guides. First up Pico da Tijuca.
What better way to see the city than from the highest peak in Rio. Pico da Tijuca is in the Tjuca Rainforest. One of the unique things about Rio is that you can be in the hustle and bustle of the city, take a few steps out, and be in a rainforest.
The climb up to the summit is not technically difficult but you do need to reasonably fit. It takes in some stunning views of the city.
At the beginning of the trek there are some waterfalls and lagoons. We took a quick dip in the waterfall to cool off, the water was a pretty good temperature.
Towards the top of the ascent there are even steps carved into the rock which make it much easier to climb. These steps are incredibly steep though, so if you have a fear of heights - be warned.
On our way back down I heard the distinctive and strange pig like sounds of the Toucan. For such a beautiful bird it has a very weird call! As we walked a little further down the sound grew louder and louder until we could see it.

This looks really like an amazing hike! Such a spectacular view.
Gorgeous Views! Love the one overlooking Rio. The one of you climbing up the ladder is not so bad too. Got your good side! Haha jk ;)
