Visiting Shrines

Today I was really excited to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine and walk through the famous Torii gates which straddle the network of trails.

Before my trip I knew nothing about Japan, but luckily a friend had Googled some of the suggested tourist destinations. When I saw pictures of this shrine I knew I wanted to visit. I didn't realise it was a huge labyrinth of Torii gates dedicated to Inari - the Shinto god of rice.
