A blast from the past! What ever happened to Block Buster Video???

I was riding through Kentucky site seeing and stubbled across an old empty building that still had the Block Buster Video sign.

It was rumored years ago Block Buster Video stores were owned by the moffia!

Can anyone confirm or deny the rumors???

Can anyone inform the Steemit community as to what really happened to them???

Blockbuster was made technologically obsolete by Redbox and Netflix. Why go to the video store when you could push a button?

This makes a lot of sense! They were simply a victim of technology. Thank You for sharing these wonderful comments. Have a great day!

There are still several blockbusters in operation in Alaska. Large parts of the state don't have internet and rely on the last blockbusters to rent movies from.

This is very interesting! Alaska may have saved Block Buster Video. Lack of internet would create the need to rent movies. Great share. Thank You very much! Have a great day!

New Technology always reduces the need in older Technology. Many for nostalgic reasons are collectors. This is true in the entertainment world in general. Think of the impact that downloading music has had on musicians. I think that is probably why concert tickets are so high now.

Even MTV affected me dramatically. lol! The few times that I watched music video it killed the meaning of the song for me. My version and the version in the videos were totally different and it burned it in my memory. It was never the same after. 😂

Thank You for your excellent comments on my post. “New Technology always reduces the need in older Technology. Many for nostalgic reasons are collectors. Have a great Sunday!

I remember hearing about the opportunity blockbuster had to purchase Netflix and they said no. Could just be a rumor but we were just talking about this the other day at work.

If that’s true, that would be one of the biggest financial mistakes in history. Netflix is huge and with Wilmot Reed Hastings Jr. behind them a real gold mine. Thank You for sharing this information.

Huge mistake is being nice about it. I have been meaning to look it up and verify but keep forgetting too. Now I’m hooked on watching the olympics. Lol

You are correct! “Blockbuster's CEO once passed up a chance to buy Netflix for only $50 million” This would have been a steal!!!

Thats a lovely post, they went bust because people relied more on netfix, post a dvd, online movies, sky etc. Its sad really but they couldnt compete with the prices.
