Environmental changes: Who is responsible to fix it?

in #life7 years ago

Environmental pollution is a social shared problem. In order to alleviate this some people assert the notion that government alone should handle the matter, others, meanwhile, affirm that it is the individuals duty to fix the issue. Today we will discuss why both individuals and government are obligated to restore the problem.

Around the globe, almost 1 billion people are living in extreme poverty in 2016, and many other depend on natural resources for their daily needs and survival. Poverty and inequality will only get worse with changing climate because these groups do not have access to the resources and with adverse climate changes like extreme flooding or droughts that may displace them or change their way of life. Poor neighborhoods in cities around the world are already known to suffer from more pollution, but they will also be disappointingly affected by increase in temperatures.

Pollution can be controlled by the government through levying taxes to people who are responsible for more carbon dioxide emission. In other words, the system could make the people lose money by paying in the form of charges for using items that are of detrimental to the climate. Therefore, governments have the capability to reduce the consumption of massive amount of chemicals that destroy our planet earth.

Today, about 30 percent of the planet's land area is covered by forests - which is about half as much as before agriculture got started around 11,000 years ago. About 7.3 million hectares (18 million acres) of forest are destroyed each year, mostly in the tropics. Tropical forests used to cover about 15 percent of the planet's land area; they're now down to 6 or 7 percent. Much of this remainder has been degraded by logging or burning. Not only do natural forests act as biodiversity reserves, they are also carbon sinks, keeping carbon out of the atmosphere and oceans.

Sometimes, government alone cannot be able to fix the pollution difficulty, but individuals could take responsibility in order to acquire a healthy environment. They can transform their lifestyle to zero wastage, meaning no usage of plastic. A significant amount of people in the United States started this approach, which resulted in a declined rate in the usage of non-biodegradable materials that could cause catastrophic effects on our ecosystem. Therefore, individuals attitude towards adapting a better lifestyle is indeed helpful in repairing earth.

In conclusion, we have discussed how both, the government and the individuals, are responsible for the good future of the environment. In my opinion, the true obligation should be taken by both of them.

Good, short and to the point article @dcrypto! I think that environmental issues are deeply linked with the economical and society models that we are following. I'm writing an article on inequality tonite and I see many common points with your one :-)

hi @dcrypto this post is very good👍🏻

Pollution is certainly a problem . Climate change is largely overplayed . It's an economy of its own now . Make what you may of it .

In New Delhi, India, there is a law that only cars with even numbered number plates can ply on some days and those with odd numbered number plates on the other days. It alternates everyday. This reduces the number of vehicles on the road and people start polling together or using public transport thus reducing pollution.
