Thought I should make an update post as to what happened when I posted about powering down for a few weeks to pick up an engagement ring for my girlfriend. As you can probably tell from the title of my post, things went pretty great and she ended up saying yes when I asked her to marry me! I'll be honest that I was about 99.9 percent sure that she was going to say yes, though you never know and I sure as hell was still nervous when it came down for the time to ask. I also had to come up with a backup plan on which ring to actually get, as the ring I picked out originally became unavailable to me so I had to look around a bit more and found something equally attractive looking and was right around the same price. Here's the ring I ended up getting for her!
I'm sure some of you think this is a bit of an odd choice for an engagement ring, but she and I have never been fans of traditional stuff, especially when it comes to wedding or engagement related things. I figured this ring would work just as well as the first ring I was looking at, as she absolutely love emeralds in addition to sapphires. It's also got 2 supporting lab diamonds to make a stone trilogy, and the band of the ring is made from titanium so she wouldn't have to worry about scratching or damaging it from wearing it while doing anything. Though, she is still quite paranoid about hurting it even though I've assured her several times it will be fine.
I thought maybe the way I asked her to marry me was a bit cheesy, I kept thinking about how I was going to do it for days without being able to decide. I finally made up my mind about 15 minutes before I asked, though I felt sick to my stomach as I waited in anticipation. To sum it up, I ended up hiding the ring behind a cupcake leaving her to find it as a surprise upon picking it up, this was after we had a nice dinner at the hotel we went out to while we were out of town before Christmas. It didn't go quite as smoothly as I wanted, as she actually left the room to go grab something from the car when I was about to bring her to where I set it down.
I had to work the courage back up after she came back in, but thankfully it went smooth from there. She approved of my method of asking and basically said it was perfect about 30 minutes later, since I didn't figure she'd want to be asked in public (As we're both antisocial kind of people and I think we both would have felt really awkward doing something like this in public in front of strangers. Plus, I kinda think that it puts a lot of extra pressure on the person being asked since it's in public, which wouldn't be too fun). Even after several days have gone by she is still just as excited about the idea of being engaged as when I asked, and we're both still trying to get used to calling each other fiance and fiancee. Though, I too am pretty excited about it though it'll be another year or so before we even think of actually getting a marriage license and all of that jazz.
The Etsy seller who made the ring did a great job, and was fantastic to talk to and work things out with. He had this done in just a couple of days and mailed out to be as quickly as possible. I'm happy that I could find such a great ring within my budget, and I honestly just thought it was absolutely fucking awesome that I was able to use some of the STEEM I've acquired to be able to help accomplish one of the most important things I've done in my life. This site has done a lot for me over the past year, and I truly am happy I stumbled my way on here and have made a few good friends and been able to come as far as I have thus far. I'm really looking forward to 2018, not only for my personal life alongside my fiancee but for what is to come here on Steemit along with the rest of you.
So, yeah, I just wanted to make an update post for anyone who was curious about how everything turned out and I guess I also just wanted to share the good news with some more people as I'm still super happy about everything and this wouldn't have happened without Steemit. I'm considering using a little bit of my STEEM in a year from now to help fund out honeymoon once we get to that point, and if I do maybe I'll make an update post with photos from that. Hell, I'll probably still share some photos and blog about it if we can take a nice trip either way. I truly hope we can get out of this area for at least a week or two to celebrate our lives.
Okay, anyways, enough of my ranting. Hope you don't mind the cheesy post. Thanks for reading it!
Congrats, good sir, and well done! I proposed to my wife with a simple sapphire ring with a white gold band (we're all about not following traditions when it comes to forking over half a year's salary on a piece of jewelry). What's important is that you did what was right for the two of you, not what someone else, or society, told you was right.
Stay true to you and you'll look back on your relationship with so many fewer groans and wishes that you'd done things differently. :)
Thanks buddy! Yeah, I wasn't going to do what my friends have done (Aka, taking out a $10000-15000 loan with the bank for a ring. So ridiculous), haha. I'll definitely follow your advice and stay true to myself, bro :) Hope you had a great Christmas, by the way!
Dude stahp, I'm gonna cry. ( ಥ‿ಥ)
My congratulations to you two, may your romance be lasting and your earnings quadruple.
Hahaha. I was shocked that she didn't cry when I asked, she tried holding it in for like 8 straight hours and was just all over the walls happy.
Thank you, brother! We've been together for almost 8 years now, and I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else. Especially when I'm sure it's hard for most people to deal with me being so weird and a cave dweller basically. How are things going with your new lady, man? I know last time we talked you said you guys were hitting it off pretty well, and you seemed really happy about it.
She's out of town on business at the moment (in Taipei) but will be back soon, as you can imagine I am excite.
Oh, that would be pretty fucking awesome to be able to visit Taiwan even while on business. Hope that she's not gone for too much longer, man! I know fully well how excited you'll be when she is on her way back, I did long distance with my girlfriend for awhile so finally getting to see her after not seeing her for months left me super nervous/excited/happy after waiting for so long, haha.
First of all, it is so awesome that you were able to powerdown some of your Steem earnings to help pay for that ring!
Second of all, that is a really gorgeous ring.
LASTLY, congratulations! This is such an exciting time of your life :).
Congratulations! The ring is beautiful. :)
