Coffee workers are paid the least of the entire coffee production chain.
The production chain of the coffee beans ends with a hot brewed cup of coffee. Like the one you may have had this morning. Can you recall how much you paid for that cup? The average price of coffee, according to Marketwatch.com is $ 2.99. Although I have on occasions paid much more than that. The chart below, published by Pan American Coffee Co. illustrates the process that goes into the coffee bean.
Out of the $ 4.13 per pound price, a coffee picker will receive between $ .04 to .07 Cents. Like in many agricultural sectors, the first hand coffee worker that plants and harvests, is paid the least in the entire chain.

The reason I write this post and series on coffee workers is to bring to mind the hard truth about agricultural workers. Many of the basic products we consume each day is produced by some of the poorest individuals in the world.
