You and in Love

My wife and I got married young. Like real young. Just about everyone was telling us that we wouldn't last. We really showed them.

17 years ago we were in a church saying "I do" and kissing for the first time as husband and wife.

It is crazy to think back of all the stuff that we have been through in our marriage and wonder how we have survived it all, but it all comes down to my wife being awesome. She is a special kind of person that has been there for me through so much and I owe her everything.

She was home taking care of our kids while I let for war and other deployments multiple times and she kept it all together for them while I was gone. Every time I left we knew that there was a chance that we would never see each other again, but she stayed strong for the kids.

Life After the Military

thealliance_thealliance_syndicates_pagebreak.png

Life after the military was more "stable" but it had its own set of complications that came along with it. After I got out I was struggling to find purpose and cope with everything that I had been through, but one thing remained constant....

My wife was there for me.

I didn't know that at first and I was pushing her away. Things started to get worse and were becoming harder for me to handle on my own and she came in and pushed me towards getting help.

Our kids were so small when I was in the military and now they are getting so big.

It is crazy to think that in two years our son is going to be 18 years old and getting ready to be going to college and move out. It wasn't that long ago that he was dumping his spaghetti all over himself while he ate.

Only a few years after that and then our daughter will be leaving the home too. Then @faitherz33 and I will be going on adventures all over the world. It will be so awesome.

Defying Odds

Well thank you all for stopping by and checking out this post. My wife and I really did defy the odds by getting married so young and having the deck stacked against us with everything we were faced with so far in our marriage. Hopefully it is smooth sailing from here on out.

Great story man. Similar to my wife and I. Highschool sweet-hearts, married at 21, 3 big ass boys. Still loving each other and each moment together. Here's to beating the odds! Keep at it... It is so worth it. And here's to 20 more 🍻🥂! Congrats!

Thank you. That is awesome that you guys are still together as well. Congrats to you two.

Wow!!! Looking so young. Such a wonderful story of growth and building a family. Your story exemplifies support. Thanks for sharing your story. Anyone ever tell you that you kinda look like Gronk in your younger days?

I have never heard that I looked like Gronk. I had to look up who that was. When I was in basic training, people told me I looked like Henry Rollins.

That's so cool that you two are still together.. You kinda look like a young Gronk... TE Pats.... I think in the header after to first photo your were probably wanting to say "Young and in Love" ;9)

Thanks. You are the second person to say I look like Gronk, but I had never heard of him before.

17 years of marriage is an amazing thing man. Marriage is something that people seem to give up on too quickly these days. Kudos to you and your wife for pushing through the tough times so that y'all are now able to enjoy the spoils.

Marriage is something that people seem to give up on too quickly these days.

True. So many people don't want to do what it takes to make things work. They just give up when things get a bit rough. It hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows for us, but I wouldn't change the past because it has made us stronger.

ooooooooooohhhhhh YA'LL R SOOOOO CUUUUTTEEEE. congrats!!

Thanks. We try, lol.

Those bleach blonde tips! I love it. Thanks for sharing some old photos, and congrats on 17 years together.

lol, i thought i was so cool back then with that hair.

Haha oh how fun! And congrats!

We had a blast. Thanks

You are an awesome family Wes :) Congrats on the anniversary! :)

Thank you. I appreciate it.

smooth sailing from here on out

Maybe. But we can't control the wind or the tide, we only steer a tiny rudder. But, like your wife proved, if we constantly strive to steer our lives together and not apart, we stand a chance of keeping marriage alive.

Alive! It is a living, growing, adapting organism, more than the sum of its parts.

This is a beautiful story (and great pics) and I wish you many more years of happiness together. Be Blessed!

Thank you. Hopefully we have been through all the big trials and everything from here on out seems like nothing for us. We have big plans for the future and we are excited for everything we have planned.

Planning together is one of the best parts so far ;)

Can't wait to read all about it in your blog!

Marriage is a team effort, it is patience and it is love above all things. Love to the husband, to the children, to what they do as a couple, to the home, to everything! The marriages of now do not last because they do not want to make an effort. When the "nest is empty" then enjoy the company of your wife. Congratulations @derangedvisions and may it be many more years.

This post is beautiful Mr!! I appreciate the love and support you give me during my weaker moments in life! You are MY ROCK and MY HERO! I wouldn't have wanted to stand by anyone else in this life!! We have to go through hard stuff to appreciate the more basic life stuff! I LOVE YOU!!

@derangedvisions What a beautiful story! Congratulations on the beautiful family! You have a beautiful wife! The important thing is that they stay together as a family, respecting each other, spending time with the children. Greetings from Venezuela!

Congratulations! What a beautiful story of love strength and the human spirit!
