RE: RACIST COPS?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

In every society the government law enforcement has been on the wrong side of history. Monopolies are always bad, especially when it is a monopoly of violence.

I was once a very dedicated police supporter, but as an institution they have lost all of my respect.

Certainly, these are people we are speaking of, and so should be treated as individuals, but behind that thin blue line they can sure act inhumane whether it be in the name of the law or just as a corrupt gang.

I am inclined to agree with you. Just in the US, the trend seems to be more abuse coming from police officers. I know not all officers abuse their authority but it seems more and more of them are turning to enforcement rather than peacekeeping. Just comparing to this time last year, more people have been killed this year than last(http://www.killedbypolice.net/)

My frustration with this issue of racially motivated killing is that it frames a serious problem in the wrong context. I don't believe blacks are targeted more and arguing that whites are killed more is missing the point as well. More Americans (all races) are being killed by police. This is what needs to be addressed. Police do more to instill fear than a sense of safety.

I agree completely. It is too easy to pass this off as racism. It's far deeper than that.
