A few days ago, I went for a swim. I was talking with someone (let's call them "That elder woman" from now on) about my home garden, and how I burried my deceased pet bunny there, and planted parsley on top, as it was his favorite healthy treat.
First question: "How could you stand the stink?", on which I immediately replied with "If you clean after the bunny, they won't stink at all. Imagine you having no shower for a week, and not cleaning the house. Your stink will overwhelm everyone around you."
Then I got a response that left me speechless, and I only wanted to break each and every bone of that elder woman, who knew what this pet meant to me (he got me through some very bad times, and he was more like a brother, than a pet)
I don't like bunnies. I can't even eat them bunnies. Someone told me that you have to deskin it and then cook it very very carefully. And for more than one person? Nah, you'll need a lot of bunnies.
"Excuse me," I interrupted her, "you are talking to someone who, on their worst part of their life, with many health issues etc, this bunny was there. He was running towards my bed in the morning to wake me up" (no kidding, he was really doing this)
That elder woman tried to get all defensive, but I wouldn't stop talking. "If you wan't to eat rabbits etc, feel free to do so. I don't need a freaking recipe. I have no intention to eat a bunny. Bunnies for me are pets. I have no problem if you want to eat them"
The reply baffled me: "That's what I told you. I don't like their meat, and they are too expensive." I immediately got up and left so as not to hit her. A couple of minutes ago, when I told her that I saved 2 dogs and a cat from the road and have them in my garden, she wanted to say "Seriously? You have pets?" so I guess I shouldn't be surprised with this discussion, but I couldn't help it.
What would you have done in my position? How would you deal with her?
Some people are just stupid and ignorant. I come acrross a lot of idiots like this in my line of work i've leaned to just ignore them and consider them lesser human beings.
That's what I usually do, I consider them lesser human beings, but in some cases (such as this one) I can't do it, it's getting way too personal. I have to work on it though.
Thanks for the resteem :)
Yea she sounded like a bitch to be honest
And no problem.
Insensitive people are inherently self-centered, you can't really change them since they already believe they are god's gift to earth.
The best thing to do is not take anything they say personally because they aren't even considering your feelings when they say it, in a way they are asking you to consider theirs.
I hope this doesn't come across as an excuse for their behavior, it is only an observation.
I completely understand that and in fact, now that the aggressiveness has left me, my only thought is "Why did I let this get under my skin?"
But the problem is that in a similar situtation where I am the one making insensitive statements, I will be an "idiot". :P
