A few weeks ago I decided to create a start-up.
I've never been entrepreneurial. I've never dreamed of starting my own business. I never thought that I would do anything like this.
I recall having conversations with friends over ten years ago about starting a business versus working for a large corporation. Several of my friends dreamed of starting their own business and being their own boss. Some even looked down on those that didn't want to work for themselves. That was never me.
My firm belief was that having my own business would be too much work and I wasn't ready to take a toll on my work-life balance. I saw people who had their own business work during evenings, weekends and vacations - I never wanted that for my life. I've read articles about people who started their own business and lost everything, financially and psychologically - I was too risk averse for that. I heard stories of the hardships that come with owning a business and I wasn't willing to take that on.
I had a firm belief that moving up the ranks in a large corporation is a huge success and it would be exactly what I would do in life. However, recently all of that changed.
I decided that I'm going to take the plunge and start my own start-up. I'm going to create an app to aggregate and listen to podcasts!
I'm not quite sure what led me to think decision - I don't recall one specific moment when I decided to do this. I believe that it could partially be because I was very frustrated with the existing podcasting players that exist on the market. Ironically, I also believe that it was due to the influence of several podcasts that I listen to, such as "How I Built This" by Guy Raz and Gimlet Media's "Startup Podcast".
Nonetheless, I'm taking this leap of faith and I'm going to do it! Wish me luck!
