One day, my daughter was visiting with our one-year-old grandson. I was preparing to go out and make a message, but as soon as I left the room, my grandson started crying. The same thing happened twice, and both times I went back and stayed a while with him. When I made my way to the door for the third time, he started pouting again. Then, my daughter said: Dad, why do not you take it with you?
Any grandpa could tell you what happened next ... my grandson accompanied me; simply, because I love him.
How good it is to know that God also responds with love to the longings of our hearts! The Bible assures us that we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God does not love us because of something we have or have done. His love is not based on our merits, but on his goodness and faithfulness. When the world around us is indifferent or cruel, we can rest in the unalterable love of God, who offers us hope and peace.
The heart of the heavenly Father has been poured out on us through the gift of his Son and the Spirit. What a comfort it is to know that God loves us with a love that has no end!
