Hey Jerry, great read! I totally understand the part about hiring friends. As long as you have trustworthy hard working friends it works out for both of you. The friend helps you out and makes decent pay due to, as you stated, negotiating a pay that makes both of you happy. On the other end, you get the services of someone who cares about your well being. As long as your friend is a true friend, they are probably going to give you their best effort because they want to be good to their friend.
Hiring friends also let's both sides keep their pride in a situation where one may need money. If you have a friend who is strapped for cash, instead of them just asking for the cash as a loan, they can help you out. You can give them that money as a payment instead of a loan...which can, and usually does, turn into an awkward situation among friends.
