Happy International Women's Day.

Canada is unveiling a new $10 bill today, and Viola Desmond is on it. Nine years before Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her seat on an Alabama bus, Desmond refused to leave the whites-only section of a Nova Scotia movie theatre. She was fined and lost her appeal, but her act of civil disobedience has made her an iconic champion of civil rights in Canada, and now she'll be the first woman whose face will grace our tenner.

Apart from the Queen of England that is.

I'm sure she was a fine woman, although I've never heard of her before. However when it comes to money, I'm more traditional in the sense the bank notes used to be reserved for images of the Queen and past Prime Ministers. They could have gone with Canada's first ever female Prime Minister, Kim Campbell. We talk alot about getting a woman in the White House. What better way to promote women in politics than putting Kim Campbell on the $10 bill. Oh wait, she was a Conservative Party Prime Minister. That will never happen under the current government. As nice as it is to see this woman recognized, when it comes down to it, it's all politics as they say. Well I suppose I can still be happy for Viola Desmond. Congrats to her.
