"**Across the Bridge... **” was a song popularized by ace American musician, Jim Reeves. It was a song that took the airwaves by storm and was heard at parties and ceremonies across the globe.
In the hey days of the song, any home that did not have it either did not have the wherewithal or lacks an appreciation for good music.
Until far into the future, Jim Reeves‘ song, “**A cross the bridge... **” will remain evergreen.
It is a philosophical, soul-stirring song, which calls our attention to the afterlife Jim Reeves’ song is a ministration which every eternity-oriented person should constantly think about.
Some people are quick to conclude that Jim Reeves‘ song is a lullaby for the poor.
They opine that the poor and the needy seem to enjoy such philosophical songs simply because they are in one difficulty or the other.
For the rich who enjoys affluence obtained from his evil dealings such thought on the afterlife is an exercise in abstractions.
Come to think of it, issues of afterlife are not things to be swept under the carpet because after the journey of so many miles we would need to sit down to count how far we have gone.
Somebody once remarked: “Live each day as if it is your last day on earth.”
*Martin Luther, the German Reformator wrote, *
“Live today as if Jesus died yesterday, rose today and will return tomorrow.”
What do all these say to us? Succinctly stated: we should be careful how we live today because there is tomorrow.
Anyone who lives with tomorrow in View is careful of how he/she should conduct him/herself. There is need for daily evaluation.
We need to evaluate our lives on a daily basis. When we evaluate ourselves, we also need to frankly grade ourselves.
It is true that when one asses himself, he will come out tops, however, there are two people one cannot lie to, " one cannot lie to himself and to God".
These are the people you cannot run away from no matter what.
*A famed Greek philosopher once counseled, *
Man, know thyself.”
*You need to be honest to yourself. *
*Our Lord Jesus Christ set an example when He asked: *
“Who do men say that I am? ”
In spite of Who He was, yet, He sought the opinion of others about Himself.
“**Across the bridge... **” for students signifies life after school. Ask yourself, “After school what is the way to go?”
For secondary students, ask yourself, “Have I succeeded in my WAEC or NECO examination to pave way for my university education?” If not, you are almost a failure.
Also do I have sources of income, a home, a family, and whats my impact to life?
Many questions, a positive mind do ask!
Those in University , ask yourself, " what's my GP?" Is my GP above 2.0? If not true, you are almost a failure..
Nevertheless, you still have opportunity to make amends. Failure is not final , **it is a success functional".
Repeat and try again if you have hope and intend to further your education. Do not become a fetcher of water or hewer of woods.
Do not live life begging, live life being begged.
From the moral standpoint, “**Across the bridge... **”calls on us to recognize that God is the owner of the world.
As we live, we must endeavour to live in consonance with God's Will.
We should abide by God's expressed Commandments.
To find your moral and spiritual bearings, I encourage you to study the Word, Pray to God for guidance by the Holy Spirit.
When your life on earth is over, where will you spend eternity? What will be your benefit if you enjoy all the glitz and glamour of life and lose your soul in eternity?
You will sooner or later cross the bridge. When you do, what will be your status?
To deprive a man of his natural liberty and to deny to him the ordinary amenities of life is worse then starving the body; it is starvation of the soul, the dweller in the body.
- Mahatma Gandhi
Always true
When this life is over, I pray we all cross the bridge to rest in God's presence and worship him.
Amen....welcome
The word is just too powerful. The solutions to our problems are right there encoded in the word. God's words are perfect.
