Well, the snow is here. @alovelymess and I were looking for a fun thing to do today, so we decided to go play in the snow. The roads weren't too bad; the interstate and main roads were clear, however the subdivisions and backroads were still white. I was curious with how our new(ish) Jeep would handle the snow. I'm happy to say it had no problems! Although I probably won't use studded tires again...One has randomly went flat a couple times with no explanation.
We drove up a small mountain a little ways to this lookout point where you have a good view of downtown Coeur D' Alene, including CDA Lake, and Fernan Lake. The frozen water to the right is Fernan Lake.
Looking the other way you can see Coeur D' Alene Lake in the background, although it's kind of hard to make out when everything is white.
After that we headed over to Canfield trail head which is also a little ways up a mountain gravel road. To my surprise, I hear @alovelymess say "we could hike for a bit."...wait...what? (She isn't too fond of the cold) After recouping from the shock, I agreed and we set out for a brisk walk in the woods.
When we got to the trail head there was no other cars there, so we had it all to ourselves. After walking a bit we stopped a few times and just listened to the quietness of the woods. No cars, no people, nothing. Just me and my wife standing in the woods with trees and snow surrounding us. It was so peaceful, I could've set up camp right there!
What's kind of funny is the different kind of pictures we took. She took a lot of the snow and plants, and I took pictures of our Jeep everywhere we went. We headed back to civilization and went for lunch. The hill going back down to town was kinda steep and wasn't plowed, plus a drop off into a creek bed on the right side. I decided 4 low was a good option going back down so I wouldn't have to push the brakes too much and risk sliding. After lunch, I spotted an abandoned Kmart parking lot. What better way to scare your wife? I had to do it! A few power slides and glares later, we headed home.
Everyone can play. Only the toys get bigger :D
Exactly my thoughts!!
Looks like you had a great time! Be extra careful though, it can be a little slippery.
Of course, always be cautious!
North Idaho is beautiful this time of year. It's always beautiful, but I really do love it with the snow
