Solution to Riddle #6: Burning Ropes
For those who missed it, the full riddle is stated here: https://steemit.com/life/@droopy/steem-riddle-of-the-week-6-burning-ropes-prize-doubled. Warning, spoilers are below! If you'd like to take a crack at the riddle on your own before seeing the solution, do not scroll down!
Solution
Light both ropes on 1 end. When the 10 minute rope is burned up, start the time and light the other end of the 1 hour rope. At the point there will be 50 minutes of time left on the one hour rope and since it is burning from both ends it will burn up exactly 25 minutes later.
Alternative Solution from @themadrunnah
This is a more complicated but still valid solution from @themadrunnah:
"You cut the first rope into 2 pieces(the 1 hour rope) and light both ends of both pieces. The moment one piece is burned completely you cut the remaining piece in half and light both ends continuing to do so until the first rope is burned completely, lighting one end of the second(10 minute rope) as the first rope finishes. This should make it so the first rope only takes 15 minutes.
If you don't want the ropes cut, you could simply light the middle of the remaining rope every time 2 burned ends meet."

Yep, there was a simpler solution, but yours was really creative, I had to think for a few minutes to even convince myself it worked, great stuff :)
