So I actually read about Robin Williams' exact cause of death, and it's not what most people thought it was. Although he did have depressive episodes and drug/alcohol problems at times (from which he recovered), his final diagnosis was actually Lewy Body dementia, which is an irreversible and frankly uncontrollable form of dementia. His reasoning - I presume - was that his condition and quality of life would only continue to deteriorate (which is objectively true with this disease), so there was no point in going on further. This was covered very poorly by the media, which is unsurprising.
