Here are Dragons
The old cartographers pointed to unknown places with expressions such as ººAbode of the great Wyrmºº or ººHere are born Monsters ..ºº. Although now the mapmakers have less imagination, man continues to manifest that kind of curious beliefs. There are people who adduce ideas of this kind to not practice meditation, although in any case they are usually people who have never practiced it and do not know what it is. We all know that terra incognita there are monsters and that they are usually myths. If a person explains to many people who have begun to practice, they may comment on this style.
It would be selfish and capricious to waste so much time for personal gain. Here are two important failures. The first, the speaker does not have the ten or twenty minutes a day needed to meditate, which denotes a painful lack of self-love. The second is that it assumes that the effects of meditation on the one who practices it do not, in turn, affect the treatment of others. This is obviously wrong. In fact, when you start practicing, many people find that others make positive comments about their changes before they perceive them themselves. Others realize at once that they become more serene, sensitive, objective and conscious, which satisfies them.
It is clear that when someone argues this reason, is saying that his interlocutor is selfish and capricious to spend time likewise, especially if, if not, dedicate that time to the person who wields the argument.
Meditation is addictive. The people who practice it say that they are worse off when they do not, from which it follows that it is an addiction. Meditation satisfies a mental and spiritual need, as food and exercise satisfy bodily needs. People who follow a balanced program of physical exercises agree that they feel worse when they do not do them. It is because the body distinguishes what is good and what is missed when it does not have it. With the practice of meditation something similar happens. On the other hand, addictions tend to produce some kind of short-term euphoria and long-term damage.
With meditation, something curious happens. When a person begins to meditate, he feels better. Over time she begins to consider the new sensation normal and forgets that before she did not feel so alive, energetic and serene. If then he stops practicing a day or two and feels again like before, he feels bad, although, surely he is more serene and san than what he used to consider normal. This is the human being.
To reassure myself, I do not need to meditate. I just have to think about it and control myself. There is a big difference between emotional suppression, which is what this kind of self-control consists of and let go. The suppression of feelings leaves us with a substrate of emotion covered by a layer of rigidity, as if it were a sea stirred by strong currents covered with a layer of ice. It is harmful to health, as the cigarette advertisement says. Meditation produces a release. Instead of forcing it to remain calm, it relaxes and favors the formation of a habit of serenity. With meditation you learn to be calm when there is no reason to have anxiety, instead of maintaining a constant level of alertness in case it is needed.
I do not need to meditate, my problems are purely physical, or my problems are real. This idea implies that the mind does not affect the body, and vice versa. I think neither is true. Everyone knows that when you are hungry, too full, tired or sick, you do not think with the same agility as when you are in good physical condition. People increasingly recognize that the mind greatly affects the body. Today many doctors and therapists prescribe meditation for cases of high blood pressure, heart disorders, migraines, cancer and other conditions related to stress. Unlike many medications and prescribed treatments for those diseases, meditation has no side effects.
I meditate when I go for a walk. I do not need to sit down to do it. That can only be said by someone who does not understand what meditation is and does not know the effects of being completely calm. It is practically impossible to be absolutely calm, with the body relaxed and the mind alert, when walking, running, or doing any exercise. It is clear that it is very difficult to meditate, with all the attention that this requires, while walking.
It is evident that you can walk, run or exercise in a calm state of mind and meditation, and that is very useful as part of a program of stress reduction and to encourage a more serene attitude to life. However, it is not the same as sitting in meditation. There is even some type of meditation that is done with movement, but it is considered more as a supplement than as a substitution for the one that is practiced sitting.
Meditation is something that makes people weird, it's not for normal people. It is true that there are very peculiar people who practice meditation techniques, and it is also true that almost all swamis meditate. They also make it religious, nuns, actors, writers, among others. As Einstein said, an idea is not responsible for people who believe in it. It could be asked what it means to be an ordinary person. The general definition seems to be someone like me or a common person who is not like you and me, who are superior .. Neither of the two definitions convinces me.
